Zhaojin, located northwest of Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, has been a fortress since ancient times. Legend has it that Emperor Yang of Sui, while on tour, remarked, " The sun shines upon my brocade clothes, and the ground looks like gold . " Zhaojin's fame spread throughout the land. Zhaojin's Danxia landforms are rare and unique. Song Dynasty landscape painter Fan Kuan (from Yaozhou, Shaanxi) captured the essence of the Zhaojin Mountains and used them as the model for his painting, "Traveling in Mountains and Streams," which has become a national treasure.
In 1933 , the older generation of revolutionaries established the first revolutionary base in the Northwest mountainous area - the Shaanxi-Gansu Border Revolutionary Base. Zhaojin thus became the cradle of the Northwest Revolution and wrote a glorious chapter in the history of the Chinese revolution.
