Tianjin University (Tianjin University), abbreviated as "Tianjin University", its predecessor was Beiyang University. It was founded on October 2, 1895. It is the first modern university in China. It is well-known at home and abroad for its motto of "seeking truth from facts", its school spirit of "rigorous scholarship" and its tradition of "patriotism and dedication".

Tianjin University is one of the first 16 national key universities designated by the CPC Central Committee in 1959. It is directly under the Ministry of Education and has a vice-ministerial-level organization directly under the central government. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Tianjin Municipal Government, and the State Oceanic Administration. It is listed among the first batch of key construction universities in the country's "Double First-Class" (world-class university construction universities), "211 Project", "985 Project", "2011 Plan", "111 Plan", and "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program".

Tianjin University boasts a beautiful environment, with four large lakes, namely Qingnian Lake, Jingye Lake, Youyi Lake and Aiwan Lake, and three leisure squares, including Beiyang Square. A typical garden-style campus is dotted with flowers. It has 26 teaching buildings, two international-standard green football fields, an international-standard swimming pool and a brand-new large gymnasium.
