Introducing Dongtan Wetland Park

Dongtan Wetland Park, located at the easternmost tip of Chongming Island, at the Yangtze River estuary and adjacent to the Dongtan Bird Nature Reserve, was formed by the continuous accumulation of silt from the Yangtze River. It is the only wetland park in China adjacent to a migratory bird reserve.

The Dongtan Migratory Bird Reserve has clean water and pure soil. The fertile land has nurtured endless reed marshes, where crabs crawl out of their holes to look for food; the mighty Yangtze River nurtures a variety of aquatic products, with fat fish and strong crabs; the pure land grows a variety of pollution-free vegetables, fruits and melons; the 30,000- hectare mudflat is also one of the few wild bird paradises in the world.

The second phase of the wetland park has a special area for attracting wading birds. A large number of vegetation native to Chongming, such as bamboo, red locust, Chinese tallow tree, water plantain, and calamus, are planted in the park. This not only forms a staggered landscape, but also provides a good habitat for birds.
