
Zhang Leping's former residence is located at No. 3 , Lane 288 , Wuyuan Road . It is a small British-style building. It is the former residence of Mr. Zhang Leping, the father of Sanmao. The residence was built in the 1930s with a construction area of 244 square meters. It is a three-story modern lane-style garden house.
Zhang Leping, a renowned Chinese cartoonist, lived here from June 1950 to September 1992 , creating numerous popular and timeless works including cartoons, traditional Chinese paintings, New Year pictures, sketches, and color ink drawings .
The former residence is a modern, independent garden house with two floors of brick-concrete structure. The furnishings in the west room on the second floor remain the original studio of Mr. Zhang, and are now occupied by his children.
The courtyard garden is lush and verdant. Zhang Leping's beloved wisteria climbs from the first-floor garden to the second-floor balcony, and a sturdy pomelo tree bears abundant fruit every autumn. In the southwest corner of the courtyard stands a life-size sculpture of Sanmao wearing new clothes.
