
Tianma Mountain is located 10 kilometers southwest of Sheshan in Songjiang District, Shanghai , and 11 kilometers from the Songjiang District Government. Anciently known as Ganshan, it is said that during the Spring and Autumn Period, General Gan of the Wu State forged his sword there, earning its name. Tianma Mountain has a steep slope, with a nearly east-west ridgeline, resembling a celestial horse about to take flight. It is now known as Tianma Mountain.
Tianma Mountain boasts the largest forest area and the highest elevation among the nine peaks and twelve mountains of Sheshan. With a long history and rich cultural heritage, it was once a Buddhist sanctuary, home to numerous Buddhist temples. Currently, the mountain boasts ten scenic areas: Tianma Spring Dawn, Famous Sages' Biography, Fairy Forest Chess Autumn, Listening to the Springs on the Cloud Wall, Ancient Pagoda Buddha Light, Moyun Panorama, Stone Cave Exploration, North Peak Sunrise Viewing, Bamboo Shadows by the Stream, and Pipa Moonlight Night.
Tianma Mountain's unique and wild landscape is characterized by rocky cliffs, deep valleys, unusual rocks, distinctive mixed woods and bamboo forests, and a profusion of wild chrysanthemums, wild raspberries, and lycoris. The mountain boasts a rich variety of plant life, dozens of bird species nest in its branches, and countless butterflies flutter among the trees. The mountain's fresh air and tranquil environment make it an ideal destination for leisure travel.
