Introducing the former site of Notre Dame

The former site of Our Lady of Xujiahui, located at 201 Caoxi North Road in Xuhui District, Shanghai , was the collective name for the monasteries and affiliated institutions run by the Society of Salvation and the Society of the Offering Church near the Jesuit headquarters in Xujiahui. The current building, constructed in 1926 , is the only remaining portion of the original Our Lady of Xujiahui monastery.

The building is a five-story reinforced concrete structure in a European style. After the nuns moved to Tangmuqiao Catholic Church in Pudong at the end of the last century, the building was rented out and is now used by the Shanghai Old Station Restaurant. It houses two train carriages: one manufactured by the Hanover Locomotive Works in Germany in 1899 , and the other by the Yekaterinburg Locomotive Works in Russia in 1919 .
