Nyingchi, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of the Tibet Autonomous Region, was called Gongbu in ancient times. It is located in the southeastern part of Tibet, in the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River.
Nyingchi is home to the world's deepest canyon, the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, and the world's third-deepest, the Parlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. The scenery here is strikingly different from other areas in Tibet, boasting breathtaking scenery, a sea of clouds and forests, glaciers against the backdrop of forests, and emerald lakes reflecting snow-capped mountains. Known as the "Jiangnan of Tibet," it boasts the Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival and the vibrant Nanyi Valley. Medog and Zayu counties, also known as the Xishuangbanna of Tibet, offer stunning views, making them ideal destinations for photography, scientific research, and adventure.
Traveling to Nyingchi should avoid the rainy season and winter to avoid natural disasters. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times to visit Nyingchi, when you can see beautiful peach blossoms and participate in the unique local Peach Blossom Festival. Autumn is when Nyingchi is at its most colorful.
