Yuezhao, located in the center of Hongcun Village, is shaped like a half moon and is commonly known as Yuetang by locals. It was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty , when Wang Siqi, the 76th ancestor of Hongcun, discovered a natural spring in the village that gushed out in both winter and summer.
The waters of Yue Marsh are perennially emerald green, their surface as smooth as a mirror. Bluestones are laid all around, and whitewashed walls and green tiles are neatly arranged on all sides. Blue sky and white clouds fall into the water. Elderly people chat, women wash their silk and handkerchiefs, and children play.
Located in the center of the northern bank of Yuezhao, the " Lexu Hall " ancestral hall, also known as the " Zhongjia Hall , " serves as the Wang clan's main ancestral hall and was built during the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty in the early 15th century. The Qianjin Gatehouse has largely retained its original appearance, with beams in typical Ming Dynasty style. The moon beams, crossbeams, brackets, and flat brackets are exquisitely carved, demonstrating a high level of artistic quality. Lexu Hall and Yuezhao together form " Moonzhao Wind Lotus, " one of Hongcun's eight scenic spots .
