Introducing Xuguo Stone Workshop

The Xu Guo Stone Archway, located on Jiefang Street in Huicheng District, She County, was built for Xu Guo, a Grand Secretary in the Ming Dynasty. It is a rare large stone archway in China and the only existing eight-legged archway in the country. It is carved from large blocks of stone weighing four or five tons.

This memorial archway, the only one of its kind in China, was erected in feudal society to honor meritorious service, academic achievement, virtuous governance, and loyalty, filial piety, chastity, and righteousness. It is the most representative representation of ancient Chinese history and culture. It is known as the " Arc de Triomphe of the East . "

The entire archway is composed of two three-bay, four-pillar, three-story stone archways in the front and back, and one single-bay, two-pillar, three-story stone archway on the left and right sides (shared by the front and back archways). The stone is made entirely of hard, green tea-colored tea-shaped stone, which is exceptionally thick and robust. Each of the eight pillars is 50 centimeters square and over seven meters tall. The beams, lintels, brackets, and corbels are also constructed from large stone.
