Introducing Shuren Hall

Located in Hongcun, Shuren Hall, whose name means " to be proficient in all trades and to educate children and grandchildren, " carries profound meaning. Also known as the Folk Art Collection Hall, Shuren Hall houses the private collection of Wang Senqiang, the 95th-generation grandson of the owner, Wang Sheng.

In order to promote the history and culture of Huizhou, the owner has collected old workshop machinery from the Ming and Qing dynasties, stone utensils, Huizhou prints, folk items, Huizhou merchants' writing utensils, Hongcun genealogy, etc. from the public and museums over the years, recreating some aspects of Huizhou's social life at that time.

The Shuren Hall's entire site is hexagonal, symbolizing the six harmonies and great prosperity. The main hall and side halls face south, backed by a canal. The ceiling is painted with vibrant gold and colorful patterns. A small pond, utilizing limited open space to the east, provides a constant flow of water. The exterior gate features an eight-shaped gatehouse with a built-in hanging railing.

The upstairs of Shuren Hall houses a collection of items such as the business route map of Hongcun people - the relics of Huizhou merchants, a painting showing the busy scene of the old Shangyun Bridge wharf in those days, a letter from a Yixian man working in insurance in Beijing in 1919 , the portrait, life story, family eulogy and obituary of Wang Dinggui, the wealthy businessman and owner of Chengzhi Hall, banknotes and letters from that time, as well as suitcases, shoe racks, harrows, hoes, straw raincoats and other farm tools used when he went out for business.
