2nd trip - what did we miss

I am bringing husband back to Savannah for a golf trip to Hilton Head then finishing up with a Thurs-Sun trip to Savannah. We came for first time last year and love it! Staying at River Street Inn this trip which is exciting. Bringing BFF that have never been. Last time we did the usual Pink House, Lady & Sons, Sonny’s, and chop house dinners. Did the Bonaventure tour and rode the bus. Any suggestions on things we missed last time that we need to add this time?

It sounds like you had a wonderful first trip and are ready to explore some new aspects of Savannah this time around! Since you’ve already done the iconic historic district spots, Bonaventure, and popular restaurants, here are some suggestions to give you a fresh perspective and new experiences for your second visit:

For unique history and culture:

  • SCAD Museum of Art: A contemporary art museum run by the Savannah College of Art and Design. Interesting exhibits and beautiful architecture make for great photo ops.
  • Savannah History Museum & Railroad Museum: Learn about the city’s past beyond the squares and antebellum homes.
  • Mickve Israel Synagogue: One of the oldest synagogues in America, with a rich history and beautiful Gothic architecture.

For scenic walking, architecture, and local charm:

  • Squares and side streets exploration: Even if you walked the squares last time, consider exploring less-touristy ones like Telfair, Washington, and Calhoun squares.
  • Factors Walk: A historic cobblestone street near River Street with unique shops, perfect for photography.
  • Bonaventure Cemetery Night Tour or Photography Tour: If you enjoyed Bonaventure during the day, consider seeing it in a different light or with a photography-focused tour.

For food and drink experiences beyond the usual spots:

  • The Collins Quarter: Modern café with great brunch and photo-worthy dishes.
  • Treylor Park: Fun, eclectic menu and casual atmosphere.
  • Elizabeth on 37th: If you want an upscale Southern dining experience beyond Lady & Sons.
  • Leopold’s Ice Cream: Classic Savannah ice cream parlor experience, perfect for a sweet stop.

For outdoor and active experiences:

  • Kayaking or paddleboarding on the Savannah River or nearby marshes: Scenic and relaxing way to see a different side of the area.
  • Wormsloe Historic Site: Iconic oak avenue, walking trails, and historic ruins—perfect for photography and light exercise.
  • Tybee Island: If you want a quick beach escape, walking the pier or exploring the lighthouse is lovely, even in cooler months.

With these additions, you can enjoy a mix of history, culture, local food, and outdoor adventures, giving both you and your friends a fuller picture of Savannah beyond the highlights of your first trip.
