Drayton Hotel Curio or Doubletree Tree Historic District

Hello,

We are trying to decide between the Drayton Hotel Curio by Hilton or the Doubletree Historic District. We will be using Hilton points, and I have narrowed it down to these properties. I am interested in a good, walkable location. Also, a nice property in general. Some of reviews, mentioned the Drayton rooms were small. I would greatly appreciate any input.

Best,

Ella

Both the Drayton Hotel Curio by Hilton and the DoubleTree Historic District are great options in Savannah, each offering a slightly different experience. Below is a breakdown of what you can expect from each property to help you make an informed decision:

1. Drayton Hotel Curio by Hilton:

The Drayton Hotel is a boutique-style hotel with a lot of charm. It's a newer property in a beautifully restored historic building, offering a more modern and stylish feel while maintaining the historic ambiance of Savannah. It’s located just a block away from Broughton Street, which is a popular shopping and dining area, making it a very walkable location for exploring the Historic District.

Pros:

  • Great location within walking distance to most of the Historic District’s top attractions.
  • The hotel is newer and has a trendy, upscale atmosphere.
  • The rooftop bar has excellent views of the city and is a nice touch for evening drinks.
  • Service is generally well-regarded with a very stylish and clean aesthetic.

Cons:

  • Some rooms, especially the standard ones, are on the smaller side.
  • Since it’s in a historic building, the rooms may have smaller windows and less natural light than a more modern hotel.

If you're okay with slightly smaller rooms and love a more boutique experience, the Drayton Hotel is a solid choice. It’s perfect if you want a more stylish, modern, and intimate experience in a prime location.

2. DoubleTree by Hilton Historic District:

The DoubleTree Historic District is a larger hotel that offers a more traditional Hilton experience. It is centrally located as well, with easy access to the Historic District and other popular areas like River Street. The hotel is known for its reliable service and comfortable accommodations, and it’s a great option if you're looking for more space in your room.

Pros:

  • Spacious rooms, which is a key advantage if you're concerned about room size.
  • Good central location for exploring Savannah, with River Street and other attractions within walking distance.
  • The hotel is a bit more family-friendly and has a larger pool, which could be an advantage depending on your travel plans.
  • The hotel offers typical Hilton amenities, including a fitness center and an on-site restaurant.

Cons:

  • Some guests have mentioned that the hotel feels more "standard" and less unique than boutique options like the Drayton Hotel.
  • It may not have the same modern boutique charm or stylish decor as the Drayton Hotel.

If you prefer more space, larger amenities, and the reliability of a well-established Hilton property, the DoubleTree Historic District may be a better choice. It’s a good option if you’re looking for a more traditional hotel experience in the heart of Savannah.

Conclusion:

If you want a more modern, stylish, and intimate experience with easy access to Savannah’s vibrant streets and are okay with smaller rooms, the Drayton Hotel Curio by Hilton is a fantastic choice. However, if you’re looking for more spacious rooms and a more traditional Hilton experience with larger amenities, the DoubleTree Historic District might be the way to go. Both are in great locations and offer easy access to Savannah’s highlights, so you can't go wrong with either option.

Best of luck with your decision and enjoy your time in Savannah!
