Dress codes at restaurants

Visiting Savannah next week (4/29-5/3) and it looks like the temperatures will be in mid/high 80s. Our dinner reservations are at The Olde Pink House, The Grey, and Collins Quarter. I’m assuming my husband can get away shorts and a golf shirt at all, or will he need something more formal at any of them? Thanks!

Visiting Savannah in late April/early May sounds wonderful, and with temperatures in the mid/high 80s, you'll want to dress comfortably while still adhering to the dress codes at some of the city's top restaurants. Here's what you can expect for the dress codes at The Olde Pink House, The Grey, and Collins Quarter:

  • The Olde Pink House: The Olde Pink House is a historic and popular restaurant in Savannah, offering Southern cuisine in a charming, upscale setting. The dress code here is smart-casual. While they don’t enforce a strict formal dress code, they do expect guests to look polished. Shorts and a golf shirt are generally acceptable, especially during the warmer months, but if you want to err on the side of caution, you could opt for long pants and a collared shirt. It’s always a good idea to check for any specific seasonal guidelines, but casual is fine, just not too relaxed.
  • The Grey: The Grey is an upscale, modern restaurant housed in a restored 1938 Greyhound bus station. It has a more formal, contemporary vibe, and while they don't require formal attire, they do recommend smart-casual dress. For your husband, a golf shirt and shorts may be acceptable, but it’s a good idea to consider a pair of long pants as well, especially if the weather is warm. Avoid overly casual clothing like athletic shorts or t-shirts. The Grey tends to attract a more stylish crowd, so leaning toward a more polished look would be wise.
  • Collins Quarter: Collins Quarter is a more relaxed, trendy restaurant with a laid-back atmosphere. It’s popular for brunch and dinner and is generally more casual than the other two spots. Shorts and a golf shirt would definitely be fine here, especially with the warm temperatures in April/May. However, if you prefer, you can dress it up a bit with a collared shirt and chinos for a more refined look. Overall, it’s one of the more casual options in Savannah but still offers a great dining experience.

To summarize:

  • The Olde Pink House: Smart-casual, golf shirt and shorts should be fine, but long pants would be acceptable for a slightly more polished look.
  • The Grey: Smart-casual, with golf shirt and shorts acceptable, though long pants might be a better choice for this upscale setting.
  • Collins Quarter: Casual, golf shirt and shorts are perfectly fine for this more laid-back spot.

Overall, it’s always a good idea to check the weather and plan accordingly, but you can feel confident that a golf shirt and shorts should work for all three places, though adding long pants for The Grey may help you fit in a bit better. Enjoy your trip to Savannah and your meals at these fantastic restaurants!
