Nightlife spots in Virginia Highland

Hi all, I'll be staying over in Virginia Highland on Saturday night and will probably have plenty of time to get a taste of the nightlife there. Can you please recommend any interesting spots - restaurants, bars, clubs may be even or anything that would stay open till later. I've been told it's a good neighborhood for that purpose but if you think otherwise I'll also take any other suggestions in the close proximity of it. Thank you in advance!

Virginia Highland is indeed a fantastic neighborhood for nightlife, offering a blend of casual bars, cozy restaurants, and some spots where you can dance and enjoy a more vibrant atmosphere. Here are some great places you can explore while you're there:

Restaurants and Bars:

  • Ardmore Tavern: A lively bar with a great selection of beers and cocktails. It’s a laid-back spot that often has a crowd, especially on weekends, and it’s known for being friendly and welcoming. The food here is also solid, making it a great choice for a casual night out.
  • Pure Taqueria: For something a little more energetic, head to Pure Taqueria. This Mexican spot offers delicious food and drinks with a nice outdoor patio area. It’s a popular hangout with a lively crowd, especially at night, and the margaritas are a hit.
  • Murphy's: A longstanding restaurant and bar in Virginia Highland, Murphy's is known for its upscale comfort food and great wine list. While it’s more of a relaxed spot for dining, you can definitely enjoy a quieter drink or two here while soaking up the atmosphere of the neighborhood.
  • Highland Tap: If you’re looking for a classic, low-key pub vibe, Highland Tap is a great choice. Known for its casual atmosphere, good food, and variety of drinks, it’s a perfect spot to hang out with friends and enjoy the night without feeling rushed.

Nightlife and Clubs:

  • The Basement: Located in the nearby Poncey-Highland area, The Basement is an intimate venue with a great selection of live music and a fun vibe. It’s a bit more on the indie and alternative side, but it’s perfect if you’re into live shows and a more underground club experience.
  • Edgewood Avenue (nearby): If you’re looking for something a bit more energetic, head over to Edgewood Avenue, just a short drive or walk away. This street is known for its collection of nightclubs and dive bars, including spots like The Sound Table (for cool DJs and a trendy crowd) and Joe’s on Juniper (a great neighborhood bar with a relaxed vibe).

Late-night Spots:

  • Maria’s Pizza: If you’re feeling hungry late at night, Maria’s Pizza offers delicious pizza and drinks until late. It’s not just a great place for food, but the vibe is warm and friendly for a late-night snack.
  • Vickery’s Bar & Grill: A little bit further out, but Vickery’s offers great drinks and live music late into the night. They’ve got a cool vibe and a mix of locals and visitors, making it a great place to end the night.

All in all, Virginia Highland is a fantastic spot to check out if you enjoy a fun and relaxed nightlife scene. The area is safe and walkable, so you can easily bounce between different venues. If you’re up for exploring beyond Virginia Highland, Edgewood Avenue offers even more variety in terms of nightlife and will definitely keep you entertained into the late hours. Enjoy your night out!
