Airport Transportation

I will be in Atlanta this coming week. I’ll be staying at the Hyatt Place Atlanta Centenial Park. Will most likely just be travelling with carry on baggage. Is the MARTA rail a good, safe way to travel there and what’s the best stop to get off of? Any suggestions for alternate transportation at a reasonable cost?

Thanks.

The MARTA rail is a great, affordable, and safe option for traveling from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to the Hyatt Place Atlanta Centennial Park. It's a direct and efficient way to get into the heart of downtown Atlanta without having to worry about parking or dealing with heavy traffic. Here's how you can do it:

MARTA Rail: MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) is a safe and convenient public transportation system in Atlanta. If you're traveling with just carry-on baggage, the MARTA rail will be comfortable and efficient for you. The trains are generally safe, especially during the day, but like any public transport system, it's always a good idea to be aware of your surroundings, especially during off-peak hours.

Best MARTA Stop: To reach the Hyatt Place Atlanta Centennial Park, you should take the MARTA Blue or Green Line from the Airport station (located at the lower level of the terminal). The best stop to get off at is the Civic Center Station, which is one of the closest stops to your hotel.

  • Take the MARTA Blue or Green Line from the Airport station heading towards the downtown area.
  • Get off at Civic Center Station (this is typically a 15-20 minute ride).
  • From Civic Center Station, you’ll need to walk about 5-10 minutes to the Hyatt Place Atlanta Centennial Park, which is located near Centennial Olympic Park.

Alternate Transportation: If you're looking for other options, there are a few affordable and convenient alternatives for transportation from the airport to your hotel:

  • Taxi or Ride-share (Uber/Lyft): Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft are available at the airport. The fare from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Hyatt Place Atlanta Centennial Park will typically range from $15 to $25, depending on traffic and demand. This might be a quicker option if you have a lot of luggage or prefer door-to-door service.
  • Airport Shuttle: Some hotels, including Hyatt Place, may offer complimentary airport shuttle services. Check with the hotel to see if this is an option for you, especially if you're looking for a cost-effective, hassle-free way to get to your accommodation.
  • Atlanta Streetcar: If you prefer something a bit more scenic, you can take the Atlanta Streetcar. The Streetcar is a great way to explore downtown Atlanta and connects to various parts of the city, including areas near Centennial Park. However, it’s a bit slower compared to MARTA and not as direct, so it may not be the best choice if you’re in a hurry.

Final Thoughts: MARTA is probably your best bet for a convenient, cost-effective, and reliable way to get to your hotel from the airport. It’s quick, relatively easy to navigate, and avoids the hassle of traffic and parking. Just remember to check the MARTA schedule and be mindful of any changes in service, especially if you're traveling during off-peak hours or holidays. If you prefer a more private or faster mode of transport, Uber or Lyft are also solid options at a reasonable cost.
