Nice place to stay near Atlanta airport?

Our morning flight has changed and we will now be landing in Atlanta around 5:00pm in February. We are heading for Hilton Head, but have decided since it gets dark around 6:20 that time of the year, we should stay near the airport and then drive to Hilton Head the next morning. Can anyone recommend a hotel near the airport we can spent the night or a charming small town nearby to stay?

If you're looking to stay near Atlanta's airport for the night before heading to Hilton Head, there are a few great options both near the airport and in nearby charming towns that will offer easy access to your travel route. Here's a breakdown of some great places to stay:

1. Hotels Near Atlanta Airport (ATL):

Staying near the airport is a convenient option, especially since you'll be landing in the evening and want a quick and easy place to rest before your drive the next day. Here are some well-rated hotels near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL):

  • The Westin Atlanta Airport: A full-service hotel offering comfortable rooms, a shuttle to the airport, and amenities like a fitness center and restaurant. It’s perfect for a restful night before a drive.
  • Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway: Another great option with a free airport shuttle, an indoor pool, and a great restaurant. Located in a quiet area, but still very close to the airport.
  • Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Airport: Budget-friendly, clean, and convenient, with free breakfast and an airport shuttle. It’s a solid choice for a simple overnight stay.
  • Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway Hotel: A bit more upscale, offering modern rooms, a free airport shuttle, and a pleasant ambiance. They also have a rooftop bar if you want to unwind before your drive the next day.

2. Nearby Charming Towns: If you want to get away from the typical airport hotels and explore a bit of charm, here are a few nearby towns where you can find more unique lodging:

  • Peachtree City (about 20-25 minutes south of ATL): This is a lovely small town with a well-known network of golf cart paths, parks, and great restaurants. It offers a more peaceful and scenic environment compared to the busy airport area. You can stay in charming inns or boutique hotels in the area. A good choice for a quiet night before your long drive.
  • Fayetteville (about 25 minutes south of ATL): Known for its small-town charm and historic district, Fayetteville has a few quaint bed and breakfasts and smaller hotels. It offers a nice, quieter atmosphere with some local eateries if you want to explore a bit after your flight.
  • Senoia (about 35 minutes south of ATL): A beautiful, historic town famous for being featured in the TV series *The Walking Dead*. This town has several charming inns and small hotels, plus a lovely downtown area with unique shops and restaurants. If you're looking for a quaint, picturesque place to stay, Senoia is a great choice.

3. Considerations for the Drive: If you’re planning on heading to Hilton Head the next morning, staying in Peachtree City or Fayetteville will give you an easy, scenic drive to I-85 South the next day, helping you get on your way without backtracking through Atlanta traffic. Senoia is a bit further south, but it’s still an easy drive, and you'll get to enjoy the charming surroundings before your long road trip.

Overall, if you prefer convenience and proximity to the airport, I recommend staying in one of the hotels listed near ATL. However, if you're looking for a bit more charm and peace before hitting the road, Peachtree City or Fayetteville are great options that are still very close to the airport and offer a more relaxed atmosphere.
