Dinner Transportation Options (No Uber?)

So it looks like there's no Uber and Taxi's aren't a big thing there either. We'll be visiting with a rental car December 8th - 13th but in the evenings would like to hit some places for dinner and NOT drive so we can have drinks. ARE there any taxi's or local services we could "pre-book" for rides around town?

Also, as non-skiers, from Florida who are just coming to soak up the snow and mountain vibes. Any "must see" places, scenic drives we MIGHT spot wildlife (we have 4WD), fun locals vibe restaurants, etc?

Visiting Big Sky in December is a beautiful experience, and it’s smart to plan transportation ahead of time, especially if you want to enjoy dinner and drinks without driving. Since Uber isn’t available and taxis are limited, pre-booked local services are your best bet for evening rides.

Transportation Options

  • Big Sky Shuttle & Town Car Services: Several local companies offer private rides or shuttles around Big Sky. These can be pre-booked and are reliable for evenings out. Examples include Big Sky Shuttle & Tours and Lone Peak Taxi. Rates vary depending on distance, but they are typically flat fees within town.
  • Hotel Concierge/Local Lodges: Many hotels and lodges in Big Sky offer shuttle service for guests to nearby restaurants and bars. Check with your hotel to see if they provide complimentary or fee-based rides in the evenings.
  • Snow Coach Rentals: Some local outfitters provide private snow coach or SUV transport for short trips if you prefer a dedicated vehicle with a driver.

Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially in December when holiday crowds can make spontaneous rides difficult.

Non-Skiing Activities & Scenic Spots

Even if you’re not skiing, Big Sky and surrounding areas offer plenty of winter scenery, wildlife spotting, and local flavor:

  • Scenic Drives: Take a drive along the Gallatin River Road or Lone Mountain Scenic Byway. Keep an eye out for elk, deer, and bald eagles.
  • Yellowstone National Park: A winter visit from Big Sky is stunning, though some roads may be closed. Wildlife like bison, wolves, and elk can be spotted, and guided winter tours are available.
  • Ousel Falls Trail: An easy walk/hike suitable for winter views and a bit of snowshoeing if desired.
  • Big Sky Town Center: Great for grabbing coffee, browsing local shops, or enjoying a casual stroll with mountain views.

Restaurants & Local Vibe

  • Horn & Cantina: Mexican-inspired dishes, lively atmosphere, great for casual drinks.
  • Olive B’s Big Sky Bistro: Upscale comfort food, perfect for a cozy dinner after a day outdoors.
  • Riverhouse BBQ: Casual, hearty meals, friendly local vibe.
  • Everett’s 8800: Fine dining with mountain views, great for a special evening.

In summary, plan to pre-book evening transportation, take advantage of scenic drives, and explore local eateries for both atmosphere and great food. Even as non-skiers, Big Sky offers plenty of winter charm and outdoor beauty to enjoy without hitting the slopes.
