Vegas in Christmas
Hi all
We'll be in LV this Christmas from 24th to 28th Dec. Plan to visit the Grand Canyon so was wondering if it would be better to visit on the 25th or 27th? Would LV strip and main area be alive or quiet on Christmas day itself?
Visiting Las Vegas over Christmas is a unique experience. The Strip and main tourist areas are typically quieter than usual on Christmas Day itself, but many hotels, casinos, and major attractions remain open, often decorated with festive lights and displays. Some restaurants may have special hours or require reservations, so planning ahead is recommended.
Regarding your Grand Canyon visit, here are some points to consider:
- Christmas Day (December 25): Most Grand Canyon tour operators are open, but some may have limited services. Roads are generally open, though winter weather can occasionally affect access, particularly on the North Rim, which is usually closed by late October. The South Rim and West Rim are accessible, but expect fewer crowds and potentially a more serene experience.
- December 27: This is still within the holiday period, so you may encounter more visitors returning from Christmas vacations. Tours are generally fully operational, and you’ll have more options for organized trips or helicopter tours. Weather conditions are similar to Christmas Day, so dress warmly and check forecasts.
Tips for both options:
- Book any guided tours or transportation in advance, especially around the holidays.
- Pack layers, as December temperatures at the Grand Canyon can be very cold, especially in the morning and evening.
- Consider sunrise or sunset viewpoints for stunning winter light, which can be spectacular with fewer crowds in late December.
- On Christmas Day, expect the Strip to be quieter during the day, but many casinos and major resorts stay lively and may host special events in the evening.
In summary, visiting the Grand Canyon on December 25 offers a quieter, more peaceful experience, while December 27 may provide more services and activity options. The Las Vegas Strip will be calmer on Christmas Day but still enjoyable with holiday decorations and open venues.
