Smoking areas at the airport

We have a connecting flight in Atlanta, are there areas inside security to smoke or do you have to go outside and then come back through TSA

At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor smoking areas. Unfortunately, there are no smoking areas available inside the terminal beyond security. Here's what you need to know about smoking at ATL:

1. Smoking Areas Outside Security:

If you need to smoke, you will have to exit the terminal, go to the designated smoking areas, and then re-enter the airport through TSA security for your next flight. There are smoking areas outside each terminal, usually located near the entrance or exit doors. However, keep in mind that exiting the terminal and re-entering means you'll need to go through security again, which could take some time depending on the lines.

2. Smoking Areas Inside Security:

  • There are no smoking areas available inside the secure area of the terminal. Once you go through security, you will not have access to any designated smoking areas.

3. Tips for Connecting Flights:

  • If you have a long layover and need to smoke, plan ahead and make sure you have enough time to exit the terminal, smoke, and return through security without missing your connecting flight.
  • If you're in a hurry, check for any airport lounges that might have designated areas where smoking is allowed, but most lounges do not permit smoking indoors.

Summary:

To smoke at ATL, you must leave the secure area and go outside to the designated smoking zones. This means you will need to pass through TSA again when you return to the terminal. Be sure to allow enough time for this process during your layover to ensure you don’t miss your connecting flight.
