We are considering a trip to Kauai in July and would really like to stay at a resort on the beach. We have previously loved Waikiki (clear water and soft sand) and Grace Bay Turks and Caicos (clear water and calm). Is there a beachfront resort in Kauai on a beautiful beach with clear water and relatively calm conditions? It appears both the Grand Hyatt and the Sheraton are beachfront. How would you compare each of their beaches? Is there someplace else we should consider? Thank you.
It sounds like you’re looking for a relaxing, beachfront resort with clear water and calm conditions, similar to your experiences in Waikiki and Grace Bay. Kauai, with its lush landscapes and stunning coastlines, is definitely a beautiful destination. While the island offers incredible scenery, the beaches can vary in terms of water conditions. Some areas are more suitable for calm swimming, while others can have stronger surf and currents, especially during the summer months.
Both the Grand Hyatt and Sheraton on Kauai are beachfront properties, and each has its own charm. However, their beaches and water conditions differ, so it’s important to compare them based on your preferences:
1. Grand Hyatt Kauai:
The Grand Hyatt Kauai is located in Poipu, on the south shore of the island, which is known for having relatively calm waters compared to other parts of Kauai. The beach in front of the resort, Shipwreck Beach, is beautiful and offers picturesque views, but it can have stronger currents and waves, especially during the summer. While it’s not the ideal spot for swimming in calm water, it is perfect for scenic walks and enjoying the natural beauty of the island. If you’re looking for gentle water for swimming, the resort does have a large pool area with saltwater lagoons that offer a more controlled, calmer swimming experience.
2. Sheraton Kauai Resort:
The Sheraton Kauai Resort is also located in Poipu, just down the road from the Grand Hyatt, and is situated on a more sheltered stretch of beach. This resort is a great option if you're looking for a more traditional beachfront experience, with calmer waters and easier access to the beach. The beach in front of the Sheraton, known as Poipu Beach, is one of the most popular beaches on the island for swimming and snorkeling. The water here is typically calmer, especially during the summer, making it better suited for families and those looking to swim or enjoy the water without strong waves or currents.
3. Other Beachfront Resorts to Consider:
If you’re looking for more options, there are a few other resorts in Kauai with beautiful beachfront locations that might fit your criteria:
Summary:
If you're looking for a calm and clear beach with good swimming conditions, I would recommend the Sheraton Kauai Resort for its proximity to Poipu Beach, which is one of the best spots for gentle waves and clear water on the island. However, if you don’t mind a slightly rougher beach and want a larger resort with extensive amenities, the Grand Hyatt could also be a great choice. Either way, Kauai offers stunning beaches, and you’re sure to find the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the island’s natural beauty!
