Airport area hotels without a car

3 of us will be flying into Boston next April for the marathon (1 of us running). Discovering that downtown hotels near the race are massively expensive or booked up or both, we’re looking at staying near the airport and taking transit to the race area. I’m hoping to find a hotel that (a) is within 2 blocks of a transit station, and (b) provides an airport shuttle. Max $600 including all fees and taxes. It’s difficult to do a search that specific using just maps and hotel websites. I’m hoping someone will have personal experience with hotels in that area and will know if those features are available.

Staying near Boston Logan Airport for the marathon is a great way to save money and still have easy access to downtown, especially if you can use public transportation. Here are a few hotels near the airport that meet your criteria: within walking distance to a transit station, offering airport shuttle service, and reasonably priced within your $600 budget.

1. The Hilton Boston Logan Airport

The Hilton is a popular choice for travelers flying in and out of Boston. It's located directly across from Logan International Airport and offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport. It's also very close to the Silver Line (SL1), which can take you into downtown Boston (South Station). From South Station, you can easily access the marathon route and other parts of the city. Prices vary, but it's often available within your budget depending on the time of booking.

2. The Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor

Located on the harbor, the Hyatt offers a shuttle to Logan Airport as well as quick access to the Silver Line transit at the Airport Station. The hotel has nice views of the waterfront and is close to the airport but not too far from downtown Boston. The Silver Line (SL1) can take you directly into South Station. This is a great mid-range option and usually falls within your price range.

3. Comfort Inn Boston Logan Airport

Another solid option, the Comfort Inn offers a free shuttle service to Logan Airport and is within walking distance to the Airport Station for easy access to the Silver Line. It's a budget-friendly option and often priced lower than other hotels in the area. It's a bit more basic compared to the Hilton or Hyatt but offers excellent value for those who don’t mind simpler accommodations.

4. Courtyard by Marriott Boston Logan Airport

Courtyard by Marriott is just a short shuttle ride from the airport and also provides easy access to the Silver Line at the Airport Station. From there, it's just a quick ride to downtown and the marathon route. It’s a well-rated hotel offering modern amenities, and its rates often stay within your $600 budget. Many travelers find this a great option for the combination of comfort and convenience.

5. The Embassy Suites by Hilton Boston at Logan Airport

Embassy Suites offers spacious rooms, a complimentary made-to-order breakfast, and a shuttle to Logan Airport. While it's a bit more upscale than the Comfort Inn, it provides excellent value with the amenities it offers. It's also just a short walk to the Airport Station, which connects to the Silver Line for quick access to downtown. This hotel is often a good mid-range option that fits your budget during off-peak booking periods.

Additional Tips:

  • Book early: The marathon will cause a lot of demand for hotels in April, so booking as early as possible will help you secure a room within your budget.
  • Public transportation: The Silver Line (SL1) provides a direct route from Logan Airport to downtown Boston and costs only a few dollars. You can get off at South Station, from where it's easy to get to the marathon start area or anywhere else in the city.
  • Consider flexibility: If you can be flexible with your dates, you may find better rates, especially if you check prices on weekdays or book in advance.

All of these hotels provide good access to public transit and shuttle services to the airport, making them ideal for your marathon trip. Just be sure to book early to get the best rates, as the area around the airport can be busy with both marathon visitors and regular tourists.
