Diner Style Breakfast

We will be visiting SGI for the first time in July. As I read about nearby restaurants I am not seeing any mention of breakfast. Is there a place to get a good traditional American breakfast? I really enjoy a good breakfast out.

St. George Island (SGI) is a charming and quiet destination, and while it is more famous for its beaches and laid-back atmosphere than a bustling restaurant scene, you can still find a few spots for a classic American breakfast. Options are limited, so it’s best to plan ahead, especially during the busy summer months.

Here are some places where you can enjoy a traditional diner-style breakfast on or near SGI:

  • Beachcomber Restaurant & Bar: Located on SGI, they serve a breakfast menu that includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, and other classic dishes. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming.
  • SGI Island Market & Deli: A small local spot offering breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. It’s a great grab-and-go option if you want to start your day early on the beach.
  • Down the Road in Eastpoint: Just a short drive off the island, Eastpoint has a few diners and cafés like The Eastpoint Café, where you can enjoy hearty breakfasts in a traditional setting.

Most restaurants on SGI are geared toward lunch and dinner, so arriving early for breakfast or checking opening hours in advance is recommended. If you’re willing to drive 10–15 minutes to nearby towns like Eastpoint or Apalachicola, you’ll find a wider selection of breakfast options including classic pancakes, omelets, and Southern-style biscuits and gravy.

Tip: Many vacation rentals on SGI provide well-equipped kitchens, so another great option is to pick up fresh local ingredients at a market and prepare your own breakfast to enjoy on a deck or beachside, which can be especially relaxing during a morning sunrise.
