Under 21 bar/jazz

Hi all

I’m traveling with 5 of us, most in their 20’s but one is 19. She doesn’t want to drink, but we are having a hard time finding anyplace that will even let us in. Thoughts on a bar, maybe with music, that will let us all in? Or pub with food?

Thank you !

New Orleans is known for its vibrant jazz scene and its many bars and music venues, but some of these venues have age restrictions, especially when it comes to alcohol consumption. However, there are still a number of places that allow people under 21, especially if you're not planning to drink. Here are a few options where your group can enjoy some music and food together:

  • The Spotted Cat Music Club - This is a lively jazz club in the French Quarter that often has a mix of jazz, swing, and blues performances. While they do serve alcohol, minors can enter if accompanied by an adult, as long as they don't drink. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
  • The Maison - Located on Frenchmen Street, The Maison has a great selection of live music, including jazz, and a food menu. This venue is known for its late-night vibe, but minors are allowed inside with a parent or guardian.
  • Pat O’Brien’s - A New Orleans institution, known for its famous Hurricane cocktail, but they also serve food and allow minors in the non-alcoholic areas. It's a great place for a group that wants to enjoy the historic setting and some live piano music.
  • Frenchmen Street (in general) - This area has a wide variety of bars and music clubs, many of which are more open to younger crowds. A few spots, like Blue Nile and d.b.a., often feature jazz or local music and have more relaxed rules regarding age. Some places may allow minors during earlier hours, especially if they serve food.
  • Maple Leaf Bar - Located in the Carrollton neighborhood, this is a bit off the main tourist track but has excellent live music, particularly jazz, funk, and local New Orleans sounds. Minors are allowed during the early hours, but they must be with a parent or guardian. It’s an iconic spot for music lovers.

It's always a good idea to call ahead or check the venue's website for specific age restrictions or hours when minors are allowed, as rules may vary depending on the night and the event.
