Two adults will be in Maui first week of April for eight days. We’ll be either renting an Airbnb or through VRBO. Neither of us have been to Maui before but we have been to the Big Island and Oahu and will also have a rental car.
Any hints or tips to make our trip go smoothly? We enjoy hiking, laying on the beach relaxing, horseback riding, local culture and local crafts. Thanks
Sounds like you’re in for an amazing time in Maui! Here are some tips and suggestions to help you make the most of your trip:
1. Renting a Car: Since you’ll have a rental car, it gives you great flexibility to explore Maui. Be sure to check out the rental car options in advance, especially during peak seasons, as availability can sometimes be limited. Keep in mind that some of the island’s roads can be winding, so drive carefully, especially in rural areas like Hana and the Upcountry.
2. Beaches and Relaxation: Maui is known for its beautiful beaches. Some of the best beaches for relaxation include:
3. Hiking: Maui has some of the best hiking trails in Hawaii. A couple of must-do hikes include:
4. Horseback Riding: You can enjoy horseback riding in the Upcountry Maui area. Consider these places:
5. Local Culture and Crafts: Maui has a rich cultural heritage, and there are plenty of opportunities to experience it. Some great ways to experience local culture include:

7. Weather: April is a great time to visit Maui as the weather is typically pleasant and the crowds are a bit thinner compared to the summer months. However, it can still rain in certain areas, especially in the rainforest regions like Hana and the Upcountry, so pack accordingly with some light rain gear just in case.
8. Relaxing and Wellness: After all the hiking and adventure, make sure to carve out some time for relaxation. Many resorts and spas offer luxurious treatments. Consider a spa day at one of Maui’s renowned wellness centers like Ho'olei Spa or The Spa at Four Seasons for a rejuvenating experience.
With your rental car, you’ll have access to explore both the coastlines and the mountains, so you’ll be able to enjoy Maui’s diverse beauty. Whether you’re relaxing on the beach, hiking up volcanic craters, horseback riding through valleys, or immersing yourself in local culture, there’s something for everyone on this stunning island!
Enjoy your trip and aloha!
