Napili Shores or Maui Kaanapali Villas
Hi, My daughter and I are staying in Maui 6/17 - 6/23. I am trying to decide between Napili Shores or Maui Kaanapali Villas. We prefer not to have a big resort feel and more low-key, but do want easy access to a swimmable beach. We plan to be out and about most of the day, but will be back in the evenings for a swim, sunset viewing, etc. So far, we plan to do the Road to Hana, and surf a few days, beginners style.
Any preferences between the two resorts?
Thank you!
Both Napili Shores and Maui Kaanapali Villas are excellent options if you’re seeking a more relaxed, low-key experience rather than a large resort atmosphere. Each has its strengths depending on your priorities for beach access, amenities, and overall vibe.
Napili Shores:
- Located on Napili Bay, which is known for calm, swimmable waters—ideal for an evening swim or beginners’ snorkeling.
- The property is smaller and quieter than most resorts in the Kaanapali area, giving a more intimate feel and less crowds.
- Rooms tend to be cozy, and many have kitchenettes, which is convenient for light meals.
- The beach is right out the front, making it easy to pop in for sunset views or a quick swim after your daytime adventures.
- Restaurants and shops are within walking distance, but overall the area has a more residential, relaxed vibe.
Maui Kaanapali Villas:
- Located on Kaanapali Beach, closer to Whalers Village and other amenities, giving easier access to dining and shopping options.
- Also a low-rise property with a quieter atmosphere compared to the big resorts along Kaanapali, but slightly busier than Napili Shores.
- Rooms are spacious and usually come with full kitchens, which is great if you want to cook your own meals.
- Beach is swimmable, though some areas can have moderate surf depending on conditions, so check daily.
- Being close to Lahaina makes it convenient if you plan to explore restaurants and galleries in the evenings.
Considerations:
- If you prioritize a quieter, more tucked-away location with easy, calm beach access for evening swims, Napili Shores is likely the better choice.
- If you prefer being closer to restaurants, shopping, and a bit more energy in the evenings while still maintaining a low-key stay, Maui Kaanapali Villas is ideal.
- Both properties are well-suited for evening relaxation after full days exploring Hana, surfing, or other Maui adventures.
In summary, for your plan of spending most of the day out and wanting a calm beach to return to in the evenings, Napili Shores offers a slightly quieter, more intimate experience with excellent beach access, while Maui Kaanapali Villas provides convenience and proximity to Kaanapali’s dining and shopping without feeling like a massive resort.
