Amtrak South Station to Omni ParkervHouse
We are planning to take Amtrak from Philadelphia to Boston in September. We’ll each have a carry-on roller bag and a back pack. I see that the distance is only half a mile. That seems too short for a taxi, Uber, etc. Is the walk from South Station to Omni Parker House do-able and is it safe?
The walk from Amtrak's South Station to the Omni Parker House is very doable and should be quite safe, especially considering the short distance of approximately half a mile. Here's some more information to help you plan:
- Distance & Time: The distance is around 0.5 miles (approximately 10 minutes walking at a moderate pace), which is very manageable. It's a short walk, so it's definitely possible to carry your bags along the way. Many visitors to Boston do this regularly.
- Route: The route is straightforward. From South Station, you can exit and head up Atlantic Avenue towards High Street. You'll pass by the Boston Common and the historic areas of downtown Boston. The Omni Parker House is located just near the Common, making it a quick walk from the station.
- Safety: This area is well-trafficked, even in the evening. Boston has a generally safe downtown area, and the walk is through well-lit, pedestrian-friendly streets. It's common for people to walk between South Station and hotels like the Omni, especially in the daytime or early evening.
- Alternative Transportation: If you do prefer not to walk, there are taxis and Ubers available right outside South Station, but the walk is short and should not be uncomfortable unless the weather is particularly hot or rainy in September.
Overall, the walk is quite easy, safe, and often preferred by those who enjoy exploring the city. Plus, you'll get to enjoy a little of Boston's charm as you make your way to your hotel!
