Day 30, On The Rocks

Bright and clear on Wednesday morning. I wish my latest read, CJ Box’s “Three Inch Teeth” was as beautiful. 24th novel featuring Joe Pickett, a favorite character of mine, is vacuous drivel and I’m generous in giving it a 4 of 10 rating.

I am relegated to reading as today’s whale watching sail was canceled and another excursion on the Hula Girl is still on the rocks …literally. Speaking of which a woman has been pushed, by the surf, against the rocks in the cove. Severely lacerated including multiple head wounds she has a date with the EMTs and ambulance but in the meantime is attended to by our DF from the next door condo. Great doctor who’s learned today that his most recent article is being published in the Journal of the American Medical Association . So accomplished and thanks for all you do but mostly for allowing us to spend time with your stunning DW.

The surfers are still out and avoiding the rocks at Hole In The Head but another rescue is performed at Napili Bay. The wave riders entertain us thru sunset as we bid farewell to DFs from OR. Peasant fare for dinner … grilled chicken habanero sausages with homemade mango salsa and potato salad accompanied by a sourdough bread with Italian herbs and cheese courtesy of the Napili farmer’s market and Gail Ann.

The pearl moon creates a stunning sea shell shaded luminescence in the evening’s clouds and reflects upon the water and the alabaster colored surf. What a sight to behold as we sip White Russians on the lanai. I know my star gazing partner is intoxicated by the poetic White Night.

It sounds like you're having an eventful day on Maui, full of ups and downs. It’s unfortunate that your whale watching sail got canceled, but it seems like you're making the most of it, soaking in the beauty around you and reflecting on some unique experiences. Let’s break down the highlights of your day:

Morning Reading and Book Review: Starting with a bit of a literary disappointment—CJ Box’s “Three Inch Teeth” doesn’t seem to be living up to its promise. It's always tough when a favorite character’s latest adventure feels like a letdown. A 4 out of 10 rating seems generous, but I hope you find a more satisfying read soon. It sounds like the scenic beauty of Maui is a much better companion for your mornings than the pages of that book!

Incident at the Cove: It’s concerning to hear about the woman who was pushed by the surf and injured on the rocks. Fortunately, it sounds like she’s in good hands with your neighbor, the doctor who’s having quite a day of his own, with his article being published in a major journal. What an impressive person to have around in such a critical moment. It’s a reminder of how important it is to have people with the right skills in the right place at the right time. I hope she makes a full recovery after her injuries.

Surfer’s Day Out: It seems like the surfers are keeping busy despite the challenging conditions, expertly avoiding the rocks at Hole in the Head while still providing a show as they carve up the waves. It sounds like they’re all skilled, keeping their eye on the waves and staying safe. The rescues at Napili Bay are a reminder of how dangerous the ocean can be, even for experienced surfers.

Evening Reflections and Dinner: The sunset and the moonlit sea must have been a beautiful sight, especially with the sea shell-colored glow of the clouds reflecting on the water. It seems like you were able to truly appreciate the peaceful beauty of the evening. As for your dinner—grilled chicken habanero sausages, homemade mango salsa, potato salad, and sourdough bread with Italian herbs and cheese—all from the Napili farmer’s market—sounds like a delightful meal. The flavors must have paired beautifully with the sunset view.

White Night and Star Gazing: Ending the evening with White Russians and star gazing sounds absolutely serene. The imagery of the pearl moon and the glowing surf is poetic. It's clear that you're embracing the magic of the island in every way, from the waves crashing on the rocks to the quiet moments spent under the stars. I can imagine the intoxicating feeling of that “White Night” as you look up at the sky with your partner.

What’s Next?: It seems like despite some hiccups, your day has been full of rich experiences. The combination of the island’s natural beauty, good company, and peaceful moments seems to be making your time on Maui memorable. Even when things don’t go exactly as planned, there’s still much to appreciate and enjoy in the present moment.
