"Computer" Museum? Where is it!?

My Partner used to live in NH and we are traveling back for a visit. Im surprising him with 2 days in Boston as he never really got to explore the city. I am building an itinerary and he has mentioned the one time he went to Boston he saw a computer that was an entire floor... I have googles and searched forums and I feel really dumb, I can't tell if it has moved to California, or in in the Museum Warf by the Children's Museum, or if it is in the Science Museum or the MIT Museum! Help please!!

It sounds like you're referring to the Computer History Museum, but it seems there may be some confusion with locations. Here’s a breakdown of the possibilities:

  • Computer History Museum (Mountain View, CA): The museum you're thinking of could very well be the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. It’s a massive museum dedicated to the history of computing and technology. However, this museum is in California, not Boston. So if your partner remembers seeing a computer on an entire floor, it’s likely from this museum, and this could explain some of the confusion!
  • MIT Museum (Cambridge, MA): The MIT Museum in Cambridge does have a collection that showcases the history of computers and technology. It includes exhibits related to artificial intelligence, robotics, and the early history of computing. While it might not have the "entire floor" you're referring to, it’s a great place to explore the intersection of technology and innovation. This could be the museum your partner was thinking of if it’s closer to your visit.
  • The Museum of Science (Boston, MA): The Museum of Science in Boston has a variety of exhibits, and while it includes a section on technology and computers, it’s not specifically dedicated to them. They do have hands-on exhibits related to computing, robotics, and other science and tech fields, but it may not be the large, dedicated computer exhibit your partner recalls.
  • Children's Museum (Boston, MA): The Boston Children's Museum is more focused on interactive exhibits for younger audiences, though it does feature some tech-related displays. However, it wouldn’t have the kind of comprehensive computer exhibit you're describing.

If your partner specifically remembers an "entire floor" dedicated to computers, the most likely answer is the Computer History Museum in California, as it's known for its vast and immersive exhibits. If you’re hoping to see something similar while in Boston, I’d recommend the MIT Museum for a good mix of innovation and history in technology.

Hope that helps clear things up! If you're still hoping to surprise your partner, either museum could be a great option to include in your itinerary!
