Hanalei Bay Resort Question

Looking to book a 2 bedroom via my GPX (Grand Pacific Exchange) timeshare company. Is anyone aware what building the 2 bedroom timeshare units would be in? I know and have read there are several privately owned condos here as well but hoping that the 2 bedroom timeshare units are nice and have decent views too. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hanalei Bay Resort (HBR) is a mix of privately owned condos, whole-ownership units that owners rent out, and a block of timeshare-managed units. Because of that, unit quality and location vary quite a bit. Grand Pacific Exchange (GPX) typically places exchangers into the same buildings that handle the RCI and other timeshare inventory.

While the resort doesn’t publicly publish an exact list of what exchange companies use, longtime guest reports and owner forums consistently indicate that the 2-bedroom timeshare units are generally located in Buildings 13, 14, and 15, with a smaller number sometimes placed in Buildings 1–5 depending on availability.

These buildings are all in the mid-resort area, not the very front row closest to the bay, but many do offer partial or very nice mountain and ocean views.

What you can expect with GPX 2-bedroom units

  • Most are lock-off style (a studio + 1-bedroom connected), which is standard at HBR.
  • Recently updated interiors vary—some timeshare units have newer furnishings, some are more dated but clean.
  • Buildings 13–15 are on higher ground, so even though they are not the closest to Hanalei Bay, they often have excellent mountain/Bali Hai views and partial ocean views.
  • You’ll have easy access to the main pool area and the central amenities.

More detail on the common timeshare buildings

Building 13

This is one of the most popular timeshare buildings because many units have sweeping views of the mountains, waterfalls, and sometimes partial bay views depending on floor position.

  • Great sunset colors against the mountains.
  • Close to the lower parking and lobby walkway.
  • Quiet location without foot traffic.

Building 14

Another centrally located building with good elevated views. Many of the 2-bedroom lock-offs assigned here receive good breezes and overlook greenery and mountains.

  • Very good privacy.
  • Just a short walk to the pool and tennis courts.
  • Some units have peek-a-boo bay views.

Building 15

This building often gets GPX and RCI exchangers. It sits slightly uphill with great vantage points, especially from upper floors.

  • Some of the nicest mountain views in the timeshare zone.
  • Most units have balconies with good airflow.
  • Often quieter than the buildings closer to the pool.

Other buildings where timeshare units occasionally appear

If timeshare demand is high, overflow units may be placed in lower-numbered buildings such as 1, 2, or 5. These are closer to the bay but not all have direct bay views.

  • Possible closer proximity to the path to the beach.
  • More variation in view quality depending on position.
  • Still comfortable and well-maintained.

Are the views good compared to privately owned condos?

Generally, the front-row privately owned units (Buildings 2–5 and certain floors in 9–12) have the very best and most panoramic Hanalei Bay views. Timeshare buildings sit slightly farther back or higher. Still, many GPX units offer lovely mountain, waterfall, and partial ocean vistas — often stunning in their own right.

Tips for getting the best view with a GPX exchange

  • Request an upper-floor unit—HBR honors requests when possible but cannot guarantee.
  • Ask for a mountain-facing unit if you prefer waterfall views (common in Buildings 13–15).
  • Call the resort a week before arrival with your reservation number to politely note your preferences.
  • If mobility is an issue, specify a unit close to parking, as HBR has steep hills.

Overall expectation

GPX 2-bedroom units at Hanalei Bay Resort are generally well-located, spacious, and offer pleasant views even if they aren’t in the resort’s most premium front-row buildings. You should enjoy a scenic, comfortable stay with plenty of access to all the resort’s amenities and the gorgeous Hanalei area.

If you prioritize a true full bay-and-sunset panorama from your lanai, you may want to request upper floors or consider messaging the resort ahead of time. But for most guests booking through GPX, the assigned buildings provide a very enjoyable and scenic experience.
