Arrival Plan

Our first trip to Kauai is 17 days away! We are staying in Princeville. Flight gets in just after 5pm. I'm sure it will be after 6 by the time we leave the airport in our rental car. Since we are coming from the East coast we will probably be walking zombies. I think we will just want to grab take out dinner and some breakfast items for the condo. What are your favorite options for this? Thanks.

How exciting that your trip to Kauai is just around the corner! After a long flight, the last thing you'll want to do is spend too much time figuring out dinner and breakfast options, so here are some great places for takeout and grocery items in Princeville to help make your arrival a smooth and relaxing one.

For Takeout Dinner: After a long flight, you'll likely want something easy and satisfying without having to go too far. Here are some solid options for takeout in the Princeville area:

  • The Fresh Shave: Located in Kilauea (about a 15-minute drive from Princeville), they offer some delicious, refreshing shaved ice and light bites. It's a fun way to start your Kauai adventure if you're craving something light.
  • Bar Acuda: Located in Hanalei (just a short drive from Princeville), this restaurant offers great takeout options like local fish and other seafood dishes. Their menu includes fresh, island-inspired meals, perfect for unwinding after a long day of travel.
  • Sweet Marie’s: Also in Hanalei, Sweet Marie’s is known for its delicious, homemade sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. It's a great place for a quick, comfort meal.
  • Hanalei Pizza: If you're in the mood for pizza, Hanalei Pizza is an excellent option for delivery or takeout. They offer a variety of pizzas, as well as pasta and other hearty dishes. It's perfect for an easy meal to eat back at your condo.

For Breakfast Items: Since you'll be staying in a condo, it’s great to have some breakfast staples on hand. Here are a few spots to pick up groceries or prepared breakfast items:

  • Princeville Market: Located right in Princeville, this small grocery store has a good selection of breakfast items like fresh fruit, eggs, yogurt, and granola. They also have freshly baked pastries and local coffee to get your day started right.
  • Foodland (Kapa’a): If you're willing to take a slightly longer drive, Foodland offers a wide range of groceries, including a nice selection of fresh produce, local jams, Hawaiian pastries, and breakfast staples. It's a good place to stock up for your time in Kauai.
  • Kauai Bread Company: For freshly baked goods, head to Kauai Bread Company in Kapa’a, just a short drive away. They have a great selection of breakfast pastries, bread, and coffee that you can bring back to your condo for a relaxed breakfast the next morning.

For Late-Night Options: Since you’ll be arriving in the evening, consider grabbing some pre-made options or snacks that you can enjoy on the go, especially if you're too tired to cook or wait for food:

  • The Green Pig: Located in the nearby town of Hanalei, The Green Pig offers takeout dishes with fresh, local ingredients. They also have a nice selection of wine if you want something to sip on as you relax after your arrival.
  • Hana Hou Restaurant: For something easy and tasty, you could grab a quick meal from Hana Hou. They offer local island comfort food, and they are typically open late. It's a good choice for a more low-key, post-arrival meal.

Final Tip: If you're not in the mood for a big meal right when you arrive, you could also pick up some light snacks, fresh fruit, and beverages to tide you over until you’re ready for a proper meal. Kauai is full of delicious, fresh produce and island treats, so even something as simple as a fresh coconut or tropical fruit could be a delightful option as you settle into your condo.

Have a wonderful trip to Kauai, and enjoy your time in Princeville! The island's beauty and aloha spirit will be waiting for you when you arrive, and you'll be ready to enjoy it after a relaxing evening in your condo.
