Day 43, No Thanks

Another beautiful day on Maui where I am embraced by the sights, sounds and fragrances of our Napili retreat. Every day as I sit and watch the wonders of this land I am moved to say “Thank You For This Day.” But this afternoon our dearest of friends, Danny Earl and Gail Ann, have left to return to Texas. I find it so very difficult to give thanks on this Tuesday.

It sounds like your day on Maui began with the usual serenity and beauty of Napili, a place that offers stunning ocean views, gentle breezes, and a sense of calm that makes one truly appreciate the moment.

However, the departure of close friends, Danny Earl and Gail Ann, has cast a shadow over the day. Saying goodbye to friends while in such a peaceful and inspiring setting can be emotionally challenging, and it’s natural to feel a sense of loss even amidst beauty.

Even in moments of sadness, the surroundings offer comfort:

  • The rhythmic sound of waves can be grounding and soothing.
  • The vibrant colors of the ocean, sky, and foliage remind you of the uniqueness of the location.
  • Time spent reflecting on memories with friends can deepen gratitude, even if mingled with melancholy.

Consider small ways to honor your friends’ visit and the day itself:

  • Capture a few photos or journal a memory from their time together.
  • Take a quiet walk along the beach to embrace the calm and reset your mood.
  • Enjoy a favorite local treat or tea to create a moment of personal comfort.

In essence, while it’s difficult to fully give thanks on a day marked by farewells, the beauty of Maui and the memories shared provide reasons to acknowledge and appreciate the experience.
