How worth it is Aqualuna

We've really wanted to do an Aqualuna evening harbour cruise on our first night in Hong Kong, as a bit of an introduction to the place. As our itinerary has evolved, we have quite a few other ferry rides involved on subsequent days. Which brings me to the question - is it still worth doing a harbour cruise like Aqualuna upon arrival? Has anyone done similar with their itinerary, and felt one way or another later on about whether they'd do it again or not? Many thanks.

An Aqualuna evening harbour cruise can be a very memorable introduction to Hong Kong, especially for first-time visitors. It provides a different perspective of the skyline and Victoria Harbour that you won’t get from land, and the evening lighting makes for a beautiful view of the skyscrapers and city lights.

Here are some points to consider:

  • First impression: Doing it on your first night can help you orient yourself with the city and give a sense of its scale and vibrancy.
  • Photography and sightseeing: The cruise offers great photo opportunities, especially at night when the skyline is illuminated. It’s unique compared to daytime ferry rides.
  • Relaxed experience: After arriving and settling in, it’s a leisurely way to start your trip rather than rushing around sightseeing immediately.
  • Alternative ferry rides: If you have other ferry rides planned, like the Star Ferry or trips to Lantau or nearby islands, they are more functional or scenic during the day. They don’t offer the same focused evening skyline experience as Aqualuna.

Additional considerations:

  • The cruise can be slightly expensive compared to regular ferries, but the experience and the views can justify the cost.
  • It’s best to book in advance to secure a good evening slot.
  • If your schedule is tight and you have multiple harbour views planned later, you might skip it, but many visitors feel it’s a worthwhile first-night experience.

In summary, even if you have other ferry rides planned, Aqualuna offers a unique, relaxing, and visually impressive way to kick off your Hong Kong trip. Most travelers report that seeing the harbour by night makes a strong positive impression, which is hard to replicate on daytime ferries.
