We will be in theory arriving at Logan airport at 11.30 PM on a Tuesday next month after a 20 hour trip from Australia. I am tempted to book a car to take us to our hotel (Westin Copley Place), given that we may well be delayed and arrive after midnight. But as an alternative, will there be taxis readily available? Needless to say we will be tired and a long wait in the cold for a taxi probably not a great idea.
Thanks for your question, and I completely understand your concern after such a long flight! Arriving at Logan Airport late at night, especially after a long trip, can be tiring, but there are several options to consider for getting to your hotel comfortably.
Regarding taxis, you won’t have trouble finding one, even after midnight. Logan Airport has a designated taxi stand where taxis are readily available 24/7, so you shouldn’t have to wait outside in the cold for long. The ride from Logan to Westin Copley Place will take about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic, and it’s a fairly straightforward route. However, since it’s after midnight, the airport may be less crowded, so you may get a taxi right away. That said, it’s always possible that you might have a small wait during the shift change, but it’s unlikely to be very long at that time of night.
If you’re concerned about waiting or the hassle of getting a taxi, booking a car service or a ride-hailing option like Uber or Lyft in advance might offer a bit more peace of mind. You’ll be able to meet the driver inside or at a designated pickup point, and you won’t have to wait outside. Some companies also offer “meet-and-greet” services where the driver will be holding a sign with your name, which can be a nice touch after a long flight.
If you're tired from the journey and want the least amount of hassle, the car service or ride-hailing option would probably be your best bet, even though taxis are a reliable choice. Booking in advance ensures you won't have to worry about availability when you arrive.
Safe travels, and I hope you enjoy your time in Boston!
