Hyatt Regency or Holiday Inn Express?
My husband and I will be visiting Savannah in April, and I'm trying to decide between staying at the Hyatt Regency or the Holiday Inn Express in the Historic District. Both hotels are similarly priced, with the Hyatt being slightly less expensive.
From what I've read, both hotels are in great locations, but I'm wondering if one stands out for being closer to pubs, restaurants, shops, and other attractions we can easily walk to. Additionally, we’d love to stay somewhere that offers a better overall experience—whether that means a nicer atmosphere, a more upscale feel, or higher-quality amenities and service. We will also have a car, so parking availability is something we’ll need to consider as well.
Can anyone share their experiences or recommend which one might be the better choice?
Thank you!
Both the Hyatt Regency and Holiday Inn Express in Savannah’s Historic District are excellent choices for your visit, and the decision largely depends on what kind of experience you're looking for. Here’s a breakdown of both options to help you make a more informed decision:
Hyatt Regency Savannah:
- Location: The Hyatt Regency is located right on the Savannah River, offering a beautiful view of the water. It is within walking distance to many of Savannah’s most popular spots, such as River Street, City Market, and a variety of pubs, restaurants, and shops. The hotel is very centrally located, so you’ll have easy access to the Historic District's top attractions.
- Amenities: The Hyatt offers a more upscale feel with amenities like a heated outdoor pool, fitness center, and a rooftop bar with views of the river. The hotel also has a restaurant and lounge, offering a more refined experience compared to a typical budget hotel.
- Atmosphere: The Hyatt Regency has a more upscale, classic hotel feel. It’s larger and more luxurious, with spacious rooms, modern decor, and high-end amenities. If you’re looking for a more “resort-style” atmosphere in the heart of the city, this might be a better option.
- Parking: Parking at the Hyatt Regency is valet-only, and there is a daily charge. This might be a factor to consider if you prefer self-parking or want to save on parking fees, but valet parking is convenient and located right at the hotel.
Holiday Inn Express Savannah - Historic District:
- Location: The Holiday Inn Express is also centrally located, just a short walk from River Street and other key attractions. However, it’s a bit more inland compared to the Hyatt, so while it’s still a great location, you may not have the riverfront views. Still, it’s close to many shops, restaurants, and bars, so you’ll have easy access to the heart of Savannah.
- Amenities: As a Holiday Inn Express, this hotel offers basic amenities like free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and a fitness center. It’s a more budget-friendly option with fewer luxurious features compared to the Hyatt. The focus is on comfort and convenience rather than luxury.
- Atmosphere: The Holiday Inn Express has a more casual, no-frills vibe. While it’s clean and well-maintained, it doesn’t offer the same level of atmosphere or upscale touches that you’d get at the Hyatt. If you’re looking for a more relaxed, low-key stay, this could be the better option.
- Parking: Like the Hyatt, the Holiday Inn Express offers valet parking, but it’s usually a bit more affordable. It’s worth checking on availability and fees ahead of time to ensure there are no surprises.
Which One to Choose?
- If you prefer a more upscale, luxurious experience with a central location, stunning river views, and better on-site amenities, the Hyatt Regency is the better choice. It’s ideal if you’re looking to enjoy a more refined atmosphere while still being close to all the attractions and dining spots.
- If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option that still offers a great location and essential amenities, the Holiday Inn Express would be a great pick. It’s more relaxed and functional, with less of a luxury feel but still close to everything in the Historic District.
Both options are great for exploring Savannah, so it really comes down to what kind of experience you’re after—more luxury and amenities (Hyatt) or a more straightforward and affordable stay (Holiday Inn Express). Enjoy your trip to Savannah!
