Water parks or good hotel swimming pools?

Does anyone know when Cowabunga bay opens for the season?

We are visiting in April with kids and would really like to visit a good swimming pool so if cowabunga isn’t open which hotel pools would you suggest are best?

Cowabunga Bay Water Park typically opens for the season in late May, so it may not be open during your April visit. However, Las Vegas offers several fantastic hotel pools, perfect for families with kids. Many of the major resorts in the area have great swimming facilities, so you’ll definitely have options to keep the kids entertained in the water.

If Cowabunga Bay isn't an option, here are some of the best hotel pools in Las Vegas for families:

  • Mandarin Oriental (now Waldorf Astoria): Known for a luxurious pool experience with a great family-friendly atmosphere. It's an upscale option but offers a nice pool for both adults and kids. It's located on the Strip, making it easy to access.
  • MGM Grand: The MGM Grand pool complex features several large pools and a lazy river, making it one of the most popular family-friendly pools in the area. It also offers a special area for kids.
  • The Venetian: The Venetian’s pools are often praised for being less crowded and offering a relaxing atmosphere. The pool area includes plenty of space for families to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed by crowds.
  • Caesars Palace: The Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis at Caesars Palace is a must-see. It offers a variety of pools, including ones that are great for kids, along with the famous swim-up blackjack tables for adults. The pool complex is expansive, and it feels like a private oasis.
  • Wynn Las Vegas: The Wynn's pool area is luxurious, with plenty of lounge chairs and even a family-friendly vibe. It’s quieter than other Strip properties, which is a bonus for families looking to avoid large crowds.
  • Excalibur: If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option with a fun family atmosphere, Excalibur is a great choice. It has a large pool area and is very kid-friendly, with easy access to other kid activities around the hotel.
  • Resorts World: One of the newest resorts on the Strip, Resorts World offers several pool options, including family-friendly pools and a large, fun pool area. Their "Zouk" pool area is also a hit for family-friendly entertainment.

Many of these hotels will have heated pools in April, but it’s always a good idea to check with the hotel directly to confirm the temperature of the pool during your stay. Additionally, some pools may be open year-round, but others might close during the cooler months.

So, even though Cowabunga Bay may not be open during your trip, you’ll still have plenty of amazing pool options to choose from in Las Vegas. Enjoy your trip!
