Upper or lower Antelope- which one for March (next weeknd)?

Solo traveler, will be booking a tour from Las Vegas (I know, not ideal, but pressed on time and it is going to be a very long drive otherwise). Wondering upper or lower - which of the Antelope canyons would be better for this time of the year?

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Visiting Antelope Canyon in March has some seasonal considerations that will help determine whether Upper or Lower Antelope Canyon is better for your trip.

Upper Antelope Canyon:

  • Upper Canyon is more accessible and flat, so it is easier for solo travelers and those who want a less strenuous walk. There are no ladders, and the tour path is mostly level.
  • March is before the peak light-beam season (late March to early October), so you may not see the dramatic light shafts that Upper Canyon is famous for, especially if you arrive early or late in the day. Light shafts appear mostly around mid-morning.
  • Tours are slightly shorter (about 1–1.5 hours) and less physically demanding, making it ideal if you are pressed for time or prefer a relaxed experience.

Lower Antelope Canyon:

  • Lower Canyon is narrower, requires climbing ladders, and walking up and down uneven surfaces, which can be more physically challenging.
  • Even in March, Lower Canyon can be photogenic with dramatic rock formations and color contrasts, though light shafts are less frequent than Upper Canyon.
  • Tours are slightly longer (1.5–2 hours), and because of the ladders and tight spaces, it’s better for visitors who enjoy a bit of adventure and don’t mind exertion.

Recommendations for a solo traveler visiting in March:

  • If you want an easier, less strenuous visit and a higher chance of a smooth tour experience, go with Upper Antelope Canyon.
  • If you want a more adventurous tour with dramatic formations and don’t mind physical activity, Lower Antelope is worth considering.
  • Book your tour in advance, as March is still a busy period with tours coming from Las Vegas and other locations.
  • Morning tours tend to have better lighting, so try to schedule early if possible.

In summary, for March and as a solo traveler with a tight schedule from Las Vegas, Upper Antelope Canyon is generally the better choice for convenience, safety, and ease, while Lower Antelope offers more adventure but requires more effort.
