hotel with cold aircon during April

Hi! I just found out that most hotels do not turn on aircon during April. They just have air circulating and room temp is around 24. Does anyone know of any hotel that has cold ac during April ? Our family prefer to stay near Forbidden Ctiy area but priority now is hotel with good aircon even in April. Thank you in advance.

In Beijing, many hotels operate under a central heating and cooling system controlled by municipal regulations. Typically, the city mandates central heating to remain on until mid-March and only allows cooling systems to be activated in mid- to late May, depending on temperature trends. This means that in April, most hotels only provide air circulation or “fan” mode, resulting in room temperatures around 23–25°C (73–77°F).

However, there are exceptions. Some higher-end international hotels and newer boutique properties have independent air-conditioning systems that can provide cold air year-round, regardless of the citywide schedule. These are generally your best options if cool air is a priority for your stay in April.

  • Waldorf Astoria Beijing (Dongcheng District): A luxury hotel close to the Forbidden City and Wangfujing area. Rooms have individually controlled climate systems, allowing for full air-conditioning even in spring months.
  • Regent Beijing: Also near Wangfujing and within walking distance to the Forbidden City. It uses an independent HVAC system, and guests report that cold air is available on request, even in April.
  • Hilton Beijing Wangfujing: Centrally located with modern facilities. The hotel typically allows cooling mode upon guest request since it uses separate room-based systems rather than centralized city control.
  • Hotel Eclat Beijing (Chaoyang District): Although not next to the Forbidden City, this boutique hotel in Parkview Green has individually controlled air-conditioning systems that can operate year-round.

If you prefer a smaller budget or mid-range hotel, look specifically for those mentioning “independent air-conditioning” or “split unit air-conditioning” in their room description. Local hotels that rely on central systems will not be able to adjust to cooling mode until city regulations permit.

When booking, it is highly recommended to:

  • Contact the hotel directly (via email or booking platform message) to confirm whether cold air conditioning is available in April.
  • Request a room on a lower floor or north-facing room, which tends to stay cooler.
  • Consider bringing a portable fan if you are sensitive to warmer temperatures, as indoor temperatures can feel humid and stuffy.

In summary, while most Beijing hotels will only have circulating air in April due to city heating regulations, some international and upscale properties near the Forbidden City, such as the Waldorf Astoria, Regent, and Hilton Wangfujing, offer genuine cold air year-round. Booking early and confirming this directly with the hotel will ensure a comfortable stay for your family.
