Beach chair rental

Hi- we are visiting in June and my husband wants to spend 1 day on the beach. We are staying at the Sheraton. Where is a good place to rent beach loungers from? We want something that will fully recline and not just a regular chair. Thanks!

Great question. Renting full-lounge-style beach chairs in Waikīkī can be a little tricky since most beach chair rentals are the folding “backpack” style. There are, however, some solid options — plus things to watch for — when you’re staying at the Sheraton.

Things to know up front

- Waikīkī’s beach is public, but chair/umbrella rental spaces are managed by beach-services vendors.
- Sheraton Waikīkī’s beach-services partner (Waikīkī Beach Services) runs a kiosk for umbrella + chaise-lounge sets right in front of the hotel.
- According to the Sheraton’s own daily activity sheet, they offer “complimentary chairs” on a first-come basis, but those are likely basic, not guaranteed recliners.
- Because demand is very high, it’s smart to reserve a rental set in advance if possible.

Recommended places to rent fully reclining or chaise-style beach chairs

  • Waikīkī Beach Services (Sheraton location) — This is likely your best bet for full-lounge / chaise-style recliners. They run a set rental for 1 umbrella + 2 lounge chairs (reclining). The check-in is at the Diamond Head Beach kiosk (at the foot of the Helumoa Playground Pool).
Price for the set is around $95 for 10 hours per their current rate.
  • Surf in the City — They offer delivery of umbrella + chair sets to your hotel. Their daily / multi-day rate makes it very convenient. According to their site, they deliver to Waikīkī hotels (including likely Sheraton) and pick up in the evening.
  • Hawaiians Oceans Beach Gear — Listed in the Costco/Oʻahu visitor guide, they offer chaise lounge rentals (plus umbrellas) right on Waikīkī Beach. This may be a slightly more local-vendor rate option, depending on what’s available.

Options if you don’t mind a simpler chair

If truly full chaise lounger rentals are limited or sold out, here are good fallback options:

  • Napapa Surf / Beach Chair Rentals — They rent out folding backpack-style beach chairs. These are more portable but won’t fully recline.
  • Surf Waikīkī — Offers umbrella + 2 backpack-style beach chairs in their set.

Tips to make it work

  • Reserve your lounge-chair + umbrella set early via Waikīkī Beach Services to guarantee a reclining option.
  • Ask for a “back-row” or “back-of-set” spot if you don’t need to be right on the water — those may be quieter and easier to snag.
  • If you use Surf in the City’s delivery option, tell the bell desk exactly when to expect drop-off (they’ll deliver in the evening).
  • Bring or ask for towels from the hotel — rentals typically don’t include them.
  • Tip the beach setup crew when they place your chairs — it’s common and appreciated for good service.

Bottom line: Yes, you can get a fully reclining chaise lounge style via Waikīkī Beach Services right in front of the Sheraton — that’s your most reliable option. Book that set in advance if possible. If that’s full, Surf in the City can be very convenient (with delivery), and other gear-rental places offer simpler chair styles as backup.
