Moana surfrider

Aloha do we know if Moana has opened their balconies in the tower rooms yet? Thanks

Good question — the status of balconies at has recently changed, and the answer depends a bit on exactly which “tower” or “wing” you mean — but there is good news as of mid-2025.

Here’s what I found (and what I’d do if I were you before booking):

✅ What’s new: Tower Wing rooms reopened in 2025

The hotel recently completed a major renovation project. According to published updates, the “Tower Wing” guest rooms reopened in summer 2025, with fully renovated rooms and new “lanais” (i.e. balconies or verandas) re-introduced.

The completed Tower Wing now offers rooms (king or two-queen) that have balcony access with updated residential-style lounge furniture on the lanais.

⚠️ What to check carefully: prior balcony closures

In early 2024 there was a balcony-railing failure incident at the Moana Surfrider (tower-wing), and as a result many balconies were closed (doors bolted shut) while structural assessments and repairs were completed.

Because of that, some past traveler reports — especially 2023–early 2024 — note that balconies were inaccessible or rooms were re-classified as “no balcony.”

💡 What that means now — and what to do before you go

  • Yes — as of mid-2025, the Tower Wing balcony rooms appear to be officially re-opened. If you book a Tower Wing “ocean view” or “lanai” type room, you should get a working balcony now.
  • Because the hotel went through a multi-phase renovation (Tower → then Banyan/Diamond wings), not all room-wings are yet fully updated — Balcony availability may depend strongly on whether your room is in the Tower Wing or another wing.
  • I’d recommend: when booking (or before check-in), confirm with the hotel that your reservation is specifically for a “Tower Wing room with balcony / lanai” — and ask whether the hallway door and balcony access are open. Photos from 2025-renovation suggest these are now functional.
  • If you book a room in a non-Tower wing (e.g. Banyan or Diamond) — especially if the renovation there isn’t completed — double-check whether balconies are available or whether they’re still closed / restricted.

✅ My recommendation (if I were you)

If having a functional balcony (lanai) matters to you — which is understandably important for a Waikīkī beachfront stay — go for a newly renovated Tower Wing room and explicitly confirm balcony access. Booking a Tower Wing “ocean/partial-ocean view with balcony” room seems the safest bet as of September 2025. If you end up in a different wing, just double-check with the front desk when you arrive.
