Distance to beach.
Will be staying at Westin. My companion will be in classes during the day. What would be the easiest/ closest/ safest way to get to the beach from my hotel. Doesn't have to be the fanciest beach. BTW do the beaches have restrooms, showers, etc.?
The Westin in Long Beach is conveniently located near the waterfront, but the main sandy beaches are a short drive away. For a solo beach trip while your companion is in class, safety, convenience, and ease of access are key considerations.
Here are the closest and easiest options to reach the beach from the Westin:
- Junipero Beach / Alamitos Beach: About a 10–15 minute drive from the Westin. These beaches are popular, relatively safe, and have paved walkways. Parking is available, though it can fill up during peak times.
- Belmont Shore / Marine Avenue Beach: Around 15–20 minutes drive south. This area is great for a casual beach experience with nearby shops and restaurants. Streets are busy but safe, and there is public parking.
- Naples Island / Naples Beach: About 10 minutes by car. Smaller and quieter, ideal if you want a less crowded spot. Limited amenities but scenic.
Transportation options from the Westin:
- Car / rideshare: Driving or taking Uber/Lyft is the simplest way to get to any of the Long Beach beaches. It’s fast and you can avoid carrying items long distances.
- Biking: Long Beach has bike-friendly paths, including along the waterfront. The Westin may offer bike rentals or you can rent nearby. Good for a short trip to Alamitos Beach.
- Walking: Some beaches, like Junipero Beach, are walkable if you don’t mind a 20–25 minute stroll along the waterfront paths. Safe and scenic.
Beach amenities:
- Most Long Beach beaches have restrooms and outdoor showers, especially the larger beaches like Junipero, Alamitos, and Belmont Shore.
- Picnic tables and lifeguards are available at the main public beaches.
- Parking lots often have coin-operated showers and some restroom facilities.
Tip: Weekdays are less crowded, and if you prefer a quieter experience, Belmont Shore or Naples Beach are good options. Always bring water, sunscreen, and a small lock for your valuables if going alone.
