A hospital stay at UMMC and hotel accommodations

My husband is going to have surgery at UMMC at 22 Greene Street. He will be in the hospital for several days and I will be staying in the area since we live out of state. I’m looking for a hotel recommendation that would be within walking distance to the hospital. I would prefer a hotel with onsite parking unless it would be more convenient to park at the hospital and keep my car there. I’m looking for any helpful suggestions.

Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's surgery, but I'm glad you're planning ahead for your stay in Baltimore. UMMC (University of Maryland Medical Center) is located in a central area, and there are several hotels nearby with convenient amenities, including parking. Here are some options for hotels within walking distance of the hospital, as well as some tips on parking:

For a short walk to the hospital, here are some hotel suggestions:

  • Hotel Ritchie – This hotel is very close to UMMC, and it's one of the most convenient options if you're looking to stay near the hospital. It’s a boutique-style hotel with comfortable rooms and offers some onsite parking.
  • The Hilton Garden Inn Baltimore Inner Harbor – Located just a short walk from UMMC, this hotel provides a comfortable stay with excellent amenities, including onsite parking. The location is also near many restaurants and shops, making it easy to grab a meal or do some light shopping if you have time.
  • Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards – About a 10-minute walk from UMMC, this hotel is conveniently located and offers great amenities, including onsite parking. It’s a good option if you prefer to stay at a larger hotel with all the usual Marriott amenities.
  • Days Inn by Wyndham Baltimore Inner Harbor – This is another affordable option with easy access to UMMC. It’s about a 10-minute walk and offers onsite parking. The hotel is basic but provides everything you might need for a longer stay.

Parking Tips:

  • Onsite Hotel Parking: Most hotels in the area do offer parking for a fee. For example, Hilton Garden Inn and Marriott both have valet or self-parking options, though they tend to be a bit expensive (around $30-$40 per night).
  • Parking at the Hospital: UMMC has a parking garage located nearby that you can use during your stay. The garage is directly across from the hospital and provides easy access for visitors. Depending on how long your stay is, this might be a more convenient option, especially if you’ll be going in and out of the hospital frequently.
  • Street Parking: There may be some street parking available, but be aware that it’s limited and can be hard to find, especially during peak hours. It’s also important to check parking signs for any time restrictions or permit requirements.

If your husband’s surgery will require frequent trips back and forth or if you want the most convenient access to food and other services, staying at one of the hotels listed above would likely be a good choice. Given your preferences, it would be easier to park at the hotel, especially if the hotel offers onsite parking, but parking at the hospital garage is also a solid option if you want to be closer to the hospital.

Hopefully, this helps you plan your stay, and I wish your husband a smooth surgery and recovery!
