New Year in Florida Keys ..........
Hey.. so im getting married in Vegas at christmas then flying to Miami for some sun. We plan to hire a car and go to the keys .
I have a million questions but i need to start somewhere.
Where is the best town or area to be in for New Year celebrations .
I realise its all chill down there but would like some kind of celebrations.
thanks in advance
The Florida Keys offer a variety of options for New Year’s celebrations, ranging from relaxed beachside gatherings to lively parties. Since you’ll be coming from a Vegas wedding, you might enjoy a mix of festive energy and the laid-back island vibe.
Best towns or areas for New Year celebrations:
- Key West: The most famous and lively spot in the Keys for New Year’s Eve. Duval Street comes alive with street parties, live music, bars, and restaurants celebrating into the early hours. The iconic “Sunset Celebration” at Mallory Square also features fireworks, and there’s the famous “conch drop” at midnight.
- Islamorada: Quieter than Key West but still has bars, restaurants, and resorts hosting special New Year’s Eve dinners and events. Good if you want some festivities without huge crowds.
- Marathon: Offers resort parties, family-friendly celebrations, and smaller-scale fireworks displays. It’s more relaxed but still festive, ideal if you want a combination of fun and calm.
- Key Largo: Mostly for smaller gatherings, bars, and restaurants hosting dinners or live music events. Good starting point if driving down the Keys and wanting an easier celebration before heading further south.
Additional tips:
- Book accommodations early, as Key West fills up quickly for New Year’s Eve.
- If staying outside Key West, plan your drive timing carefully, as traffic can be heavy leading into Key West on the 31st.
- Consider reservations for dinners or parties, especially if you prefer a more formal celebration at a resort or restaurant.
- Bring cash for smaller bars, street vendors, and tips; some places in Key West may not accept cards on busy nights.
In summary, Key West is the ultimate spot for a lively New Year’s celebration, while Islamorada and Marathon offer festive yet more relaxed options. Plan your travel and bookings ahead to make the most of the holiday in the Florida Keys.
