Budget Hotel Choices - July

Hi,

Looking at taking advantage of the 4 day ticket for the 70th anniversary. Trip would be my husband and I, 30s. Possible dates either 5-10 July or 26-31 July.

This is a bit of a budget trip, so looking to keep costs low, less than $150 a night, ideally around $100 as this is a 5 night stay.

So far I have the choice of Alamo Inn and Motel 6 Maingate.

Alamo is $110 a night or so, not sure I’m keen on the location, is it quicker to walk through Downtown Disney to get to the parks or would walking east on Katella up Harbor be better ? Entering on Harbor is the side I’m used to. Is Downtown Disney security busier? I don’t really wanna use the monorail as I like entering on Main St. I also read they have secret codes for discounted stays so maybe I need to find those. Just not sure of their location and dining options.

Motel 6 is only $88 a night or something. I’ve previously stayed at the Candlewood before so kinda like this location as it’s right by some dining options like California Fish Grill and a Starbucks there for the coffee in the morning. I know DTD has a Starbucks but prices are higher, I believe you can do mobile order though. I know Motel 6 would be a very basic motel but the reviews don’t seem bad, just not sure how keen I am staying there for 5 nights.

I’m waiting to see if Candlewood maybe has an Easter sale as they our coming out $180 a night rn.

Thoughts? options?

Thank you

For a budget trip to Disneyland during the 70th anniversary, location, convenience, and price are all key factors. Considering your options and preferences, here’s a detailed breakdown to help with your decision.

Alamo Inn:

  • Price: Around $110/night, slightly higher than Motel 6 but still within budget.
  • Location: Slightly further from the Harbor entrance but offers proximity to some local dining options. Walking to Disneyland via Katella/Harbor is straightforward and familiar if you like entering from the Harbor side. Walking through Downtown Disney is also possible but may involve more crowds and security checks, especially during the 70th anniversary celebrations.
  • Pros: Mid-range budget option, quieter than staying immediately near the park gates, more traditional hotel amenities.
  • Cons: Not directly adjacent to Downtown Disney; you may have a slightly longer walk compared to some closer options.

Motel 6 Maingate:

  • Price: Around $88/night, very budget-friendly.
  • Location: Close to restaurants like California Fish Grill and Starbucks, convenient for quick meals and morning coffee. Also relatively close to Harbor entrance, but walking might be a bit longer than Alamo Inn.
  • Pros: Extremely economical, convenient dining nearby, basic but clean accommodations, good reviews for budget travelers.
  • Cons: Very basic amenities, less comfort for a 5-night stay, smaller rooms, minimal extras.

Candlewood Suites:

  • Price: Around $180/night currently, which is higher than your target but sometimes discounts are available.
  • Location: Excellent for proximity to Harbor entrance and quick access to Disneyland. It also offers suites with kitchenettes, which is great for saving on meals.
  • Pros: Comfortable, good amenities for longer stays, convenient for Main Street entry, consistent quality.
  • Cons: Higher nightly cost unless discounted, may exceed strict budget limits.

Other considerations:

  • Walking through Downtown Disney versus Harbor entrance: Harbor entrance is generally quicker for a straight park entry if you prefer Main Street. Downtown Disney can be more festive but security may slow you down.
  • Discount codes: Check AAA, AARP, or Disneyland official partner promotions for Alamo Inn or Candlewood; sometimes you can get up to 15% off.
  • Dining options: Staying near Harbor (Alamo or Motel 6) gives you easy access to both off-site restaurants and some casual options within the park. Candlewood offers kitchens, which can save money if you prefer self-catering.

Recommendation: If comfort and moderate amenities matter for a 5-night stay, Alamo Inn is probably the better balance between budget, comfort, and location. If keeping costs extremely low is the priority and you don’t mind basic accommodations, Motel 6 works fine. Candlewood is ideal if you can catch a discount and want more space and kitchen facilities.
