First timers coming to Clearwater in June. This destination has been on my bucket list for a while so I'm glad we are getting to check this off. REALLY looking forward to it. We are travelling as a family with two teens. We have hit a roadblock with accommodation choices - we just can not decide on where to stay. It is a toss up now between the new Opal Sol & the Wyndham Grand. The OS has all the bells and whistles being a brand new property + access to the Sands is a HUGE plus. But on the other hand, the Wyndham offers a really good value and in a perfect location. I'm just hearing a lot about it having such a small pool. I know, small things to nitpick about, but I just can't seem to settle. Help!
Both the Opal Sands Resort and the Wyndham Grand in Clearwater Beach offer excellent accommodations, but they cater to slightly different priorities. For first-time visitors with teens, your choice will largely depend on whether you value modern amenities and beachfront access over location and overall value.
The Opal Sands is a newer property with modern design, luxurious rooms, and direct access to Clearwater Beach. It also allows easy access to the Sand Key Beach area, which can feel a bit quieter than the main beach strip. The resort amenities are top-notch, including a good-sized pool, fitness center, and upscale dining options. If your teens enjoy swimming and lounging in a stylish environment, this resort is a strong contender.
The Wyndham Grand, on the other hand, offers a prime location in the heart of Clearwater Beach, close to shops, restaurants, and family-friendly activities. While the pool is smaller, the convenience of walking to attractions and having quick access to the beach may outweigh this drawback for some families. Rooms are comfortable and the value is often better than a brand-new resort.
For families with teens, consider how much you value the pool and on-site amenities versus being in the center of activity. Teens might enjoy the freedom of walking to restaurants and shops from the Wyndham, while Opal Sands may be better if your family prefers a modern, luxurious base for relaxing and beach time.
In summary:
Both are excellent choices, and you really can’t go wrong. It’s more about whether your family prefers a resort-centric experience or a central, walkable location.
