question re: bars to watch sports
Hi! I asked this question on a FB page and got a couple not nice answers so I thought I'd try here, usually very nice people on TA.
Are there any bars in the general Clearwater area that tend to support/cheer the Boston teams on? Might be a stretch, but I remember Key West had a "Red Sox Bar", and where I come from in Vt there is a Bills football bar, etc.... Want to watch some of the Celtics playoff games, and not a biggie but fun with like minded fans now and then. Thanks!
Good question. I couldn’t find any *known bars in Clearwater* that are specifically “Boston strongholds” for Celtics, Red Sox, or other New England teams — no dedicated Boston fan bars show up in local directories or fan-bar listings. In fact, on Tripadvisor, someone asked exactly your question, and the top reply was simply to pick a regular sports bar and ask the bartender to put the game on.
Here are some useful local sports bars you could try, plus tips for increasing your chances of catching a Boston game with sound or other fans:
- Cooters Sports Bar (Clearwater Beach): Very sports-friendly bar, lots of big TVs and the bar advertises that “fans from all teams are always welcome.”
- The Boxer Kitchen & Bar (Clearwater Beach): Formerly the Brown Boxer, now reopened. They have 28 televisions, so there’s a good chance one could be tuned to the Celtics/Red Sox when you ask.
- Whiskey Wings (East Bay / Clearwater / Largo area): Frequently mentioned by locals on Reddit for watching all kinds of games.
- Localz Sports Bar & Grill (Largo): Another bar mentioned by local Reddit users for game-watching in the Clearwater/Largo area.
- Eddie’s Bar & Grill (Dunedin): Slight drive, but gets mentioned as a solid neighborhood sports bar.
Tips to make this work:
- When you arrive, politely ask the bartender or server if they can put the Celtics or Red Sox game on one of their TVs — many bars are flexible if there’s not a conflicting event.
- If sound is important to you, go during big games (playoffs, big events) — the bartenders are more likely to keep that one TV tuned to your game.
- You could also check local sports-bar Facebook pages or call ahead on game day — letting them know you're a Celtics fan might help them plan to put the game on.
- If you don’t find a great bar in Clearwater, there *are* more sports-bar options in nearby Tampa / St. Pete that may be more likely to cater to out-of-state fans.
In summary: no, there doesn’t appear to be a Boston-centric bar in Clearwater, but there are plenty of sports bars with many TVs where you should be able to request your game. If you're lucky and it’s a big game, you might even get a few fellow fans there.
