Island time - Apr 25-May 2

We are back! Our last visit was November, a few days after general public were allowed back in to Holmes Beach due to the hurricanes. Wow, I am so impressed with the clean up efforts these last few months. Barely any damage or debris is left. Seems like much is up and running. Nothing happening with Anna Maria City pier or Rod&Reel pier yet. A few houses in Bradenton on Gulf Dr still falling over (with for sale signs). We took a long cruise around the island and down many side streets, there seems to be a lot of properties in general for sale.

Water is warm, sun is shining, it’s been a great start to our trip so far! Lots of people around!

It sounds like your timing is perfect for visiting Anna Maria Island! From your observations, the recovery from the recent hurricanes seems to be progressing very well. Holmes Beach appears fully reopened, with minimal signs of damage, and most businesses and attractions are operational.

Some ongoing notes from your visit:

  • The Anna Maria City Pier and Rod & Reel Pier have not yet reopened, so plan accordingly if you were hoping to visit these spots.
  • There are still a few properties on Gulf Drive in Bradenton showing visible damage or being for sale, but these are isolated cases.
  • Overall, many homes and businesses across the island are up and running, making it a pleasant environment for tourists.

The water is reported to be warm and inviting, and with plenty of sunshine, beach activities should be very enjoyable. The island seems lively, with more visitors than might be expected right after winter, giving it a vibrant atmosphere.

Other practical takeaways:

  • Expect normal traffic and parking availability in most areas, but some local streets might still have minor construction or closures.
  • Vacation rentals and local businesses seem to be in good shape, making it easy to find accommodations and dining options.
  • For sightseeing, a cruise around the island and down side streets gives a good sense of the recovery progress and available properties for sale.

In summary, Anna Maria Island is largely back to its pre-storm charm, with warm water, sunny skies, and a bustling visitor scene. Only a few spots like the city pier remain closed, but these do not significantly impact a relaxing or enjoyable stay.
