First time in Portland

Question

We fly to Boston from Edinburgh on Sunday,22June and are heading straight to Portland by bus from the airport. We shall be in Portland ( staying at the West End Inn) for 5 full days. We are relying entirely on public transport, so no car. Any suggestions on where to visit, where to eat, what to do in Portland (local history, scenery, shopping etc.) and nearby during our stay would be gratefully received. We have heard about Kennebunkport? Would that be possible without a car? Thank you in advance.
