Getting from Zhuhai to HK Airport

Hi!

What is the ways to get from Zhuhai to HKIA? I will have luggage with me. Read about HKZM bridge and seems like there are shuttle bus and public bus options. Which would be better and what is the travel time required? Not sure if customs will be crowded at Zhuhai.

Thanks!

Traveling from Zhuhai to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) can be done conveniently via the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau (HKZM) Bridge or through other land and ferry options. Since you will have luggage, ease of travel and customs clearance are important considerations.

Here are the main options:

  • HKZM Bridge Shuttle Bus (Golden Bus)
    • The shuttle bus runs directly between Zhuhai (Zhuhai Port on HKZM Bridge) and HKIA.
    • It is specifically designed for travelers with luggage, so boarding and luggage handling is straightforward.
    • Travel time: Approximately 50–60 minutes from Zhuhai Port to HKIA, depending on traffic and border processing.
    • Customs: You clear exit immigration at Zhuhai Port and entry immigration at the Hong Kong Port before boarding the bus. Peak hours may have longer queues, but mid-morning or afternoon departures are usually smoother.
    • Tickets: Can be purchased at the port or online. Buses run frequently, roughly every 15–30 minutes.
  • Public Bus via HKZM Bridge (B5X / B6X routes)
    • Public buses connect Zhuhai with Hong Kong, but they may require transferring at Hong Kong port or city bus terminals to reach HKIA.
    • Travel time: Around 1.5–2 hours depending on connections.
    • Less convenient with luggage compared to the dedicated shuttle.
  • Ferry Options
    • Ferries from Jiuzhou Port in Zhuhai to Hong Kong (China Ferry Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, or Hong Kong–Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan).
    • After arriving in Hong Kong, you would need to take the Airport Express train or taxi to HKIA (approx. 40–50 min).
    • Travel time: Total ~2.5–3 hours including transfer and waiting.
    • Ferry is comfortable but involves multiple transfers, which can be inconvenient with large luggage or children.

Tips:

  • The shuttle bus via HKZM Bridge is usually the most efficient option for travelers with luggage and heading directly to HKIA.
  • Allow at least 30–60 minutes for customs and immigration clearance on both sides. Zhuhai port can be crowded during peak periods (morning and evening), so plan accordingly.
  • Purchase tickets in advance when possible, especially if traveling during weekends or holidays.

In summary, for convenience and speed with luggage, the HKZM Bridge shuttle bus is highly recommended. Public buses or ferries are alternatives but involve extra transfers and longer travel times.
