Beach access from 60th and Holmes

Hello, we are excited about our upcoming AMI visit. We have rented a house on 60th and Holmes. Looking at maps I'm not sure where the best beach access is. When choosing the house, the distance looked like an easy walk but now I'm wondering if the most direct access takes us through condos or homes. Yikes, I'm sure that's not acceptable. Any help is appreciated.

We are thinking about renting a golf cart. I doubt I will want to use it going down to Bradenton but in Homes and Anna Maria for the beach and restaurants. Are all of the roads accessible in those ares or are some greater than the 35 mph limit?

Thank you in advance.

Staying near 60th Street and Holmes Beach puts you in a very convenient location for accessing Anna Maria Island’s beautiful beaches. The island is well-known for its relaxed, small-town atmosphere, and walking to the beach from your rental should be straightforward, though a few points are worth noting.

Beach access in this area is generally via public access points rather than through private homes or condo properties, so you won’t need to worry about trespassing. The closest public beach access points to 60th Street and Holmes Beach are on Gulf Drive:

  • The 59th Street Beach Access is very close, offering direct paths to the Gulf with walkways, sand ramps, and parking for those who drive.
  • Another option is the 63rd Street Access, just a few blocks south, which is also a public path and typically less crowded.
  • For families, Coquina Beach is slightly further south but offers amenities like picnic areas, restrooms, and lifeguards, making it great if you want a more organized beach experience.

Walking from your house to the beach should be safe and convenient. Most paths are paved or well-maintained sandy paths, and you won’t have to cut through private property. The area has a mix of single-family homes and low-rise condos, but public beach access points are clearly marked and intended for pedestrian use.

Regarding a golf cart rental, it can be a fun and efficient way to get around Holmes Beach and Anna Maria Island. Golf carts are legal on island streets that have a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less, which includes almost all local streets near the beach. However, when venturing onto larger roads like Gulf Drive or heading toward Bradenton, you’ll need to use a car, as golf carts aren’t street-legal on faster or busier roads.

  • Golf carts are ideal for short trips to restaurants, local shops, or the beach within Holmes Beach or Anna Maria.
  • Check with the rental provider for any restrictions or advice on routes, but most roads around your location are safe and under the 35 mph limit.
  • For longer trips, such as excursions to Bradenton or further south on the island, a regular car is recommended.

In summary, your rental near 60th and Holmes Beach gives you excellent beach access via public paths, and a golf cart is a convenient and legal way to move around the island’s slower streets. Walking is also very manageable, making your stay flexible whether you prefer a stroll or a quick ride to the beach or nearby restaurants.
