April 26 Desoto parade

We are driving to AMI and our final day of driving is 4/26. I just read Bradenton is having the Desoto parade and blocking several streets. How do we get to Anna Maria? We will start the 26th from Atlanta Georgia. Any help is appreciated.

Can’t wait to get there ❤️

Driving from Atlanta to Anna Maria Island on April 26th will require some planning due to the Desoto Parade in Bradenton, which will block several streets and likely cause traffic delays in the downtown area.

Here are some tips to navigate around the parade and reach Anna Maria smoothly:

  • Consider taking I-75 south as your main route, which bypasses the downtown Bradenton area entirely and connects efficiently to the Gulf Coast bridges leading to Anna Maria Island.
  • Avoid taking US-41 or other surface streets through Bradenton city center during the parade times, as these will be congested and partially blocked.
  • Plan your arrival either before the parade starts (typically morning to early afternoon) or after it ends, if possible, to minimize delays.
  • Use navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze in real-time to track street closures and traffic updates—they often reroute automatically around major events like parades.
  • Cross the Anna Maria Island Bridge from Bradenton Beach or use the Longboat Key route if you prefer an alternative scenic route, especially if the main bridge from downtown Bradenton is affected by parade traffic.

In general, expect the usual drive from Atlanta to Anna Maria to be about 7–8 hours without stops. With parade-related traffic, it could add 30–60 minutes, so plan accordingly.

Bringing snacks, water, and planning for a brief rest stop along the way will make the last leg of your trip more comfortable. Once you arrive, you can enjoy the island’s beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere—well worth the effort!
